I've tried gumtree in the past to get rid of unwanted items, mostly had good experiences of it. Agree about ebay, hate all the faff when stuff goes missing!Sealed pot challenge 5 #15490

It's been a while since I've contributed to this thread but thought I would post an update. I had stopped saving for a deposit at the start of last year but in the last couple of months have been quite determined at trying to save as much as possible as I really need to fly the nest at some point!
My deposit total currently stands at £18,641 and I'm hoping to try and save about £700 each month if possible. I'm being extra frugal this month so should be able to save a little bit more.
Buying somewhere close to where I currently live is going to be hard as flat prices start at around £130k. Ideally I want to get a 2 bed house where I can stay for a long time but unless prices fall, my salary goes up dramatically and my deposit is huge I will have to set my sights lower.
I've read this thread pretty much the whole way through and everyone is doing fantastic, keep up the good work!Saving for a deposit: £20,551 / £25,000 - 82% of the way there...0 -
An update from my last post here in October '11 - Still in London, still on the 23k job... my total savings currently stand at £33,000. If I used that as 20% deposit, that'd be a 165,000 property.... unfortunately I checked a few building society websites and they'd only lend me approx 100k, so I got a fair amount of saving to do if I want to live in somewhere halfway nice! Damn this expensive city!
Food shopping has become very frugal now - at least half the stuff I buy is Value range.0 -
It's nice to see lots of people are seeing and support our journeys. Happy saving everyone. X3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

Hi there, i just thought i would pop in and say hello
We're moving in with family next week so that we can continue saving our deposit. We've struggled to add to the pot whilst renting and due to circumstances beyond our control we were given notice on our current rented place. We've got roughly a 10% deposit so far but are looking to save 20% plus fees.0 -

Thats what I have done. It is a small sacrifice for a deposit for your own home. We are lucky to have family who are able to support us :j3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

I have a question, how much are you lot putting aside for fees etc? I just worked out for a £200k house were looking at about £5k in fees:eek:! Someone please tell me I am hugely over-estimating!Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j0
