I have approx £16,000 saved up after 5 years...(living with parents aged 26 and now earning £19k, was previously on less,...so not a huge wage)...hoping to buy early to mid next year and my total target fund is £23,000 (which consists of a 25% deposit [i live in scotland!], 2k for fees, 2.5k for furniture). Means I need another £7,000 in 12-15 months = minimum of £466 per month. Hope I can do it!!!!! Will be worth it in the end I'm sure?

Got a spreadsheet taking into account everything included accrued interest on savings, which helps reduce the total needed a little bit :)

Still on £5700. Aim for 2012 is to get the house deposit to £10000. That will be great for me. That will also be with other savings which im keeping different, this is to upgrade my car etc and have a life. Also keeps me focused, i used to get bored when all the money was going to the house deposit.

Keep going guys, lets make this a good year on this tread but everyone doing good

I think the ability to save is a skill. Especially if you are used to spend, spend, spend like me a few years ago. But the threads keep me running on with my savings pot into the sunset I hope!

I am really enjoying doing the Sealed Pot Challenge which I will spend on stuff for my new home as I have not set aside a budget for that. I should I know, but I can get that as I do the rooms. I have the important bits like beds and tv's lol. :D x

  • Afternoon all,

Can I be in your gang please.

Bit of background info for the nosey parkers - managed to get debt free last January after many years struggling with money due to an ex partner who stitched me up good and proper. Now with my lovely fiance who literally does walk on water and we're desperate to get a deposit in place.

Since last Jan I've managed to save £9000 towards our deposit and think we'll probably have enough between us by late summer. We don't want anything massive just something nice that doesn't need loads doing.

I'm currently managing to save £850-£900 a month but that is really hard going and we've become a bit hermit like to achieve this but I know it will be worth it.
2013 - Finally got the house we' ve worked so hard to get......now it's a life of diy and no money....couldn't be happier 😊
2020 - mortgage free target set 8 years and counting 🎯
Even the longest walks start with one small step....get your boots on.

Not sure if it's the same where you're looking but there was a lot more (affordable) places on zoopla when I looked!

Hello Andrea, that's a lot of saving, worth it though :D

  • I seem to spend most of my time on the laptop, between Rightmove, Zoopla and my internet banking seeing if anymore odd pounds can be transferred into the savings account.

Its got to the point now if we're out in the car I can tell you what houses are on for what price and how they're decorated - my other half says it could be my specialist subject on Mastermind :) I think he secretly thinks I'm turning into Kirsty Allsop.

I know I'm torturing myself because we can't afford anything at the moment, let alone have anything to sit on if we could get somewhere, but I think its my focus to keep those pounds in the bank and not in my purse being wasted on things I don't need.

Maybe this place can be my therapy, so sorry in advance :D

I am just looking at Zoopla now. I think a reposession might get me more for my money if I can find a nice one that is. I have seen lots that have had the lightbulbs taken out and kitchen cupboards!xx

  • Some of the ones that I've had a nosey at look like too much work. We don't particularly know anyone that could help us, so as long as its livable I don't want to discount it, but I'm not brave enough or rich enough to undertake a project.

Still love looking at them though.....can't believe how some people leave them
