    Some of you must have a big income or very low out goings. Our household bills come up to around £1000 a month then we have food, travel etc to add

    i havent been saving that long only properly for a few months (even tho i joined this tthread ages ago) we are a low income family, and i'm a sahm we have 3 kids 5 and under so right now it would cost us more in childcare for me to work, our montly out goings are just over £1k for everything that includes food, money for xmas and clothes for all of us, however because i'm a sahm i can look around for the bets deals

    now i'm really trying to save i have my bank set up to send £50 every monday we are paid our taxcredits on a monday, hubbys paid of a friday but as it's a family business this is usually late so i didn't wanna leave us short by doing it on a friday, then once our rent is paid i transfer any extra money over, it's going well so far i've saved nearly £2k in 3 months which imo is good going at xmas

    I earn 18k a year but I have one son which I get quite a substansial Child Support Payment for. What I have done is moved back in with my Mum for a few months (until my deposit is saved) I am very lucky that my Mum doesn't have a mortgage so I don't have to pay any rent for my son and I. I think her idea was if I paid rent I would be there longer. And she wants to move somewhere smaller so the quicker I am off and, the better for her moving.

    I am trying to save £1,500 a month.....although now I feel this may have been a 'tad' ambitious. I am literally not spending anything, except for Petrol and essentials.

    I have found the first stage hard but now I am glad to see I have money left in my account after I have put my savings over which to me is progress from buying in debt for years. Happy saving everyone x

    My husband and I started out in debt years ago. Looking back at it I could have saved a lot of time if I'd just sat down with some bank statements and a calculator and did the math. Once we paid off the debt we concentrated on saving some cash, after 12 months, we had saved up the grand total of £2000, we were so proud that we had turned things around. The more we saved, the more of an incentive it was to tighten our belts, and the more money the savings made sitting in an ISA.

    I'm being really honest when I say, I think we would probably have stayed in debt if it wasn't for MSE. I haven't posted much at all on MSE but I've lurked around reading posts for years. Some of the individuals and stories have been a real inspiration to keep trying even when we really felt like giving up.

    Thanks! It's the first year I've tried to plan out the money for it, it's usually a mad rush in December and then begrudgingly paying off credit cards in January :rotfl:

    So I think my plan now is to save £54 a week meaning £2808 each year. Debt should be paid off with April's pay so will start saving from end of May, aiming for £2000 by end of year.

    2012 = £2000
    2013 = £4808
    2014 = £7616
    2015 = £10424

    So £10,424 to move to the south coast with, with 6 more years to save.
