Congrats on hitting your target for the beginning of the year hostie. Is that your overall target complete now? what are your next moves? Increase your target or start searching?

I have viewed a couple of places but going to save a little more, 1 of the places i've seen recently (there was only 1 picture on rightmove - repossession) every single wall had a fist shaped hole in it - needed a lot of work doing to it.

Think I might save up to £25,000, going on holiday in April (Florida) and i have a list as long as arm of things i want to do, see and buy :D

    Hostie
Saving for a deposit for a place of my own.....

    1poll £23.90/£40.00 (claimed 1x£40)
No Monthly Car Payments left! Paid off on the 5/11/10!
  • Welcome to the thread Thifty Pixie - its good that you both have made a good start with £9,000 already :T

Its an eBay weekend to try to bump up the savings. anyone else got any moneysaving plans?

After a long absence I am going to re-join this thread. My last post in this thread is here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/24770633#Comment_24770633
My job was under threat and eventually I did end up leaving at the end of 2009 only to then go self-employed and then back into full time employment again. I'm still self-employed (and also work full time in another job) and it's doing ok, also my job should be pretty safe.

Currently have £10k saved and aim to save £500 per month. I should also be able to add a lump sum later this year of about £4k so providing I keep up with my £500 p/m then I should have £20k by the end of the year!

I'm in it for the long haul now as I really need my own place!
    Saving for a deposit: £20,551 / £25,000 - 82% of the way there...
  • Hi i haven't posted on here for a while. As I haven't technically started my savings yet, but that is about to change as of this nearing payday. I have managed to stick to my budget this month so that I will not be in my OD or have a CC payment to make before payday, so things are looking good to be able to add £1000 to my deposit fund this month. 20 paydays until my first target is met (unless I can save some extra by being extra frugal with my spends budget).

    Good luck everyone.

It's sad isn't it? A couple of years ago I was on the debt free wannabe board, wishing the months away until I was debt free.

Now I'm on the saving for a deposit thread wishing the months away until I finally have enough for a deposit so I can actually move out of my parents at long last.

I'm sure once I do this, I'll be over on the mortgage free wannabe board, wishing the months away again until I'm mortgage free.

Anyone else feel like they need to slow down and enjoy the journey rather than always looking to the end of the tunnel?
This is WAY more fun than monopoly.

YES. Completely agree. I did the same board hop and I'm sure I shall join you on Mortgage Free Wannabe. Feel a little like life is on hold until we buy somewhere, which is such a shame. We are in London at the moment and feel a little like we are missing out on some of the great things to see and do here because we are always saving and thinking "when we move". I know there are a lot of things to do which don't cost, but we also seem to be working all hours to pick up all the wages we can. We were both in bed by 10 lastnight shattered!

i'm wishing my life away!
  • I feel exactly the same. Wishing my life away first it was paying off debt, and now its saving for a deposit. It is sad, but I don't really know how to stop that feeling. I do wish I had my own place and wasn't living with my parents, but I don't feel like I can enjoy the journey as I don't want to live here, I just have to in order to make my dream of owning my own home come true. (On the flipside it is nice not having bills to pay at the same time).

I honestly don't think i'll be wishing my life away to pay off a mortgage. I will make overpayments but I won't stress about it like I have done to clear my debts and I currently am doing to get a deposit together. I will definitely enjoy living in my own place. Hopefully I won't need a mortgage to run to its full term, but I won't stress to cut it down to quick. I want to live too. Saying that though I know i'll end up on the MFW board. :rotfl:
