Sorry bit off topic but... Louba was the Amex cashback just deposited to your card or did you have to do something to trigger it?
Dinah - that's annoying about the house - the same happened to me when I bought my flat. I saw it during the day but the bathroom is internal so you couldn't see anything and we had to take lots of photos just to get an idea of what it looked like.
Blacktaxi our mortgage adviser strongly advised us to aim for 20 - 25% deposit but that was to get better rates. When we last looked into mortgages in February the maximum the lenders would lend was 85% loan to value so 15% deposit but things might have eased off a little since then - not sure what others experience has been. Hope this is useful!Mortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. Blog link http://beautifulorpractical.blogspot.com/2010/07/oh-this-is-all-new.html :j0 -
I know HSBC do 90% mortgages but the rates aren't amazing. Sure others do them too.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hoping to hit my 20% savings mark by Christmas0 -
Savings back under 25% as paid the deposit for the wedding. Another £500 going back into the deposit fund on the 5th though, which will get us back up to 23% again.
Have the viewing of the house rearranged for Saturday but from the impression we get the vendor isn't likely to budge much on price, and it needs a staggering amount of work doing.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hi Everyone
I think I need to join this thread purely for moral support. I feel like I've been saving for a deposit for a lifetime. Me and the o/h are saving for our first house. We have a combined take-home wage of £2200 (in our pockets after tax) and currently have £22k saved.
We're getting to the age where we need 2+ bedrooms and a garden. Oh and he's got motorbikes so obviously we need somewhere to put them!! Houses that match our requirements in our area are currently going for around 120k so 30k need realistically (or 25k and a bargain/miracle!). We're nearly there but it's taking so long I'm starting to lose the will to save!!
Just put £900 away this month but still feel quite glum. I think it's because we currently live in a static caravan and winter's on the way. We were really hoping to have got somewhere by now!
Happy thoughts needed!
Good luck everyone else with your savings. How do you all keep positive?0 -
Hi loueyn - hopefully you'll find the motivation and support you need
It's certainly helped me feel more positive even though we have a looong way to go. Sounds like you've done an amazing job to get where you are with your savings. I know what you mean about losing the will, I'm not very patient at the best of times and it's hard to stay focused. I've started a savings and mortgage reduction diary on here to help me stay on track - it's working so far - might work for you too.
good luck

Payday update! Without accounting for the Amazon payments and other bits and pieces I'm waiting for I've another £2428 for November taking me to £28928 and 46% of my target. I'll do a further update when all the other wee bits fall into place.
