I'm 'properly' saving for a deposit now so I've decided to update. I've added £150 to the deposit today so I'm almost at £700. If I've got any money left when I've sorted out what is happening with my money properly I might round it up to £700.
At the moment the only real target I have is to fill my ISA by the end of the tax year, but ideally I'd like to save at least 25% of the value of a house which would be at least £40k where I live. Finally bought a homeStarting mortgage £289,500 31.01.19 - Current outstanding £192,984.78/CENTER]Overpayments since 27.03.19: £52,341.430 -
Car problems this month mean I'm £215 worse off, however have had a slight increase in pay so managed to put a little something in the pot this month!0

Is anyone else a little sad that whilst we'll be able to afford a lovely new house, once we get one our savings'll be all gone and we'll have to start again - or is that just me. Think I'm really developing a saving bug!
Me . It's lovely to have savings, I'll really miss the security of having them when I finally buy.
I suspect that I've turned in to a saver now, so will probably become a MFW and start saving all over againSaving a house deposit. Member no.7 100% of target

I think I'm going to become a MFW too ... eventually. I now enjoy the challenge of saving.0

Wow I cant believe how well everyone is doing with saving! I earn just over minimum wage (not much over!) and my OH hasn't been in work properly since being made redundant 2 years ago. We currently rent, I pay all the bills, ridiculous as it sounds I am trying to save for a deposit; I have a much smaller kitty than others on here; I've got £6k which I have worked sooo hard for, by cutting back on everything (this amount is about half of my yearly income but has taken me afew years to save. My OH has no savings, but I try my hardest to pay all bills and go without so I can save a little each month. Got a pot of money put away for Xmas and the clotheshow in December so hopefullly I can continue to put away pennies each month to achieve my goal. I know lenders are only giving mortgages to people with a minimum of 10% deposit, but I will get there eventually! I have already found my dream house, but at £180k is way out of reach. But there will be more! Hopefully my OH can find a job and then we can get back to 'proper' saving!0

Hi skap - care to share anymore about yourself, monthly savings, how you invest your savings so far, the 'dream' house you're saving for?
Hi all. Thought I'd join the thread as a bit of a motivational tool.
Our target is a £75,000 deposit by April 2012.
We've currently saved £19,000 in about 18 months. In september 2009 we started on a 2,000 a month savings target.
We've 16,500 in maxed-out isas, and 2,500 in INGs 3.2% savings a/c.
This is the unattainable utopia house...
This is the potentially achievable inspiration house...

Those houses are gorgeous phirefly, and well done to everyone for adding to their pots.
It's so good to feel that we're all moving in the right direction and that its all becoming more achievable
So i just managed to add £900 to my savings which has brought me up to £4000 :j
Really pleased, and hoping my £5000 target by new year will be met. Even if i don't i know i'll be close.
Feeling very positive today, keep it up everyoneSave £12K in 2019 #: £0.00 / £10,000 (0%)

In september 2009 we started on a 2,000 a month savings target.
That is amazing!!
I guess that you are a couple saving £2000 a month combined? If you're doing this alone and saving £2000 a month that is amazing!!
After a few slack months I'm back on target & saving £1000 each month.
Good Luck!Quit Smoking 12 years 2 months.0 -
Phirefly those houses look amazing! Well done on your savings so far you're doing really well
I think I need to stop looking at property websites until we have more saved........I just get frustrated that we can't afford them yet. All in the name of researching what we can afford......
I've just had £165 credited to my cash back AMEX Card so that's a further £165 for the deposit pot, so we're creeping towards £27k. We've also pulled out a heap of things to go to a car boot sale in a few weeks which should help clear more space where we are and also add a wee bit more to the fund.
The savings plan looks like this monthly to March 2010 £2428 (once current overpayments stopped) and from March 2010 £3208 (once current car loan ends - the loan wasn't really huge just taken out over a short term which made the payments huge ) so on top of what we have already should take us to around £58k by June / July next year just short of our £62k target as long as we can stay motivated.......fingers crossed!
The next step is to try and cut the grocery and fuel spend to see if we can make up the £4k gap.........looks like its beans on toast for whileand lots of exercise walking to work
Good luck everyone!Mortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. Blog link http://beautifulorpractical.blogspot.com/2010/07/oh-this-is-all-new.html :j0
