Just checking... is everyone here going to borrow the maximum of what the bank(s) will lend them?

Not if I can help it! Thats why I have set myself such a big savings target for a deposit.

I'm the same as Palema. I want to save as much as I can so that I end up borrowing less. That's the plan anyway, but my savings aren't really growing at a very rapid rate so I'll probably either have to put off buying for some time or borrow more.

I will work out exactly what I can afford per month with all my outgoings and decide from that what to borrow. Hopefully it will link up with the 3 bed semi im after, if not i'll be saving a lil longer.

I'm so glad to hear it... the lady I spoke to at the bank seemed shocked that I wouldn't want to borrow the absolute maximum they offered, so we must be in a minority!!! :rotfl:

    Hurray its payday!!!:j:j:j

My house savings have been given another little boost with my £400 going into my monthly saver and another £105.50 into my A&L Account £65.50 of this is from Babysitting and the other £40 is from the extra money I recieved in my salary this month as I have been acting as a senior at work for a few weeks. I wasn't really expecting £40 (more like £10/£15!) extra so it was a nice surprise and I thought I would just live as normal and save the extra. Savings total is now over £3.5K and I am just over 14% of the way to my total house savings :T:T

I've done a very bad thing today. Despite still plugging away at our savings and looking into how much we can borrow, I went into a sofa shop with a view to our "new house". Our current sofa must be about 30 years old and is definitely saggy and was a hand-me down. So, I went into the other extreme and checked out Multiyork *hangs head in mortal shame*. Think we'll be on beanbags when our current sofa packs up completely......

Oh, I did add £120 to our savings pot today though as it was also my payday. Still not even enough for a Multiyork footstool...

    Hey All,

I was talking to some people at work that thought that once i got my deposit amount up, instead of just jumping in straight away i should rent a house for a few months (im currently living with my folks) which would allow me to get furniture and work out my usual solo monthly outgoings. I can afford to rent without denting my deposit savings im sure.

    Any thoughts?

Anyway, saving is going well this month, although a few birthdays coming up which could dent the amount i can put away. Im up to 58% and its payday in 12 days :o)
