At the moment it is back at 1.117. It's those bl**dy bankers again! HBOS in far worse do do than they were admitting to. I am beginning to come around to the idea of taking them all out and shooting them.
Maybe that would be too good for them.0 -
Analysts said market players were adjusting their positions to account for the risk of the G7 saying something about sterling, but some analysts were unconvinced that this would happen.
Standard Bank G10 currency strategist Steve Barrow said the risk of sterling being discussed was low and that the pound could well resume its falls once the meeting is over.
"These bouts of sterling strength are there to be sold," he said.
Speaking on Friday, Prime Minister Gordon Brown continued to suggest that the UK authorities were unconcerned about the pound's weakness, saying the decline in sterling's value has helped Britain's competitive trade position.
Sterling's gains on Friday wiped out some the losses suffered after BoE Governor Mervyn King said on Wednesday the central bank may soon implement unconventional measures to boost an ailing economy.
But analysts believe these concerns, alongside worries about falling interest rates and an ailing financial sector could soon return to haunt the pound.
"All these factors point towards a weaker pound," BTM-UFJ's Hardman said.0 -
Well if that is the way the analysts are looking at it then what about the weakness of the eurozone economy? Why would they single out the UK for treatment when the eurozone is in such a bad way as well?
'UK authorities' (i.e. the PM) may not be concerned about the weakness of the pound but eurozone 'authorities' (ministers) are concerned about it's weakness and want the UK (PM) to do something about it.0 -
