they had their biggest year on year drop since 1980 !

surprise surprise, EuroZone GDP comes in worse than expected !
showing its biggest contraction on record

who still thinks GBP is the only rubbish currency ??

I was very surprised that harryhound thought that the Asians considered the pound to be a rubbish currency. I have spent many years in the far east and it is a very well respected currency. The problem that people have with it at the moment is entirely down to the perception of our economy. Mervyn King was completely open about the poor state of the economy, which other countries often are not. Therefore we get hammered more because our openness and honesty in this area makes others think we are worse off than they and others are. The reality is somewhat different as can be seen from the figures now coming out of the eurozone.

Portugal GDP just came out TWICE as bad as estimated

I'm telling you all, there are major major problems with the Euro.
Officials are trying to brush it all under the carpet, but there is huge unrest with the stronger economies like Germany/France having to cover the backs of the rubbish ones, like Spain/Greece/Portugal etc...

Creates alot of bad feeling, I'm sure.

Give it a few more weeks/months of this, and its gonna get ugly, which will call for talk of disbanding the EUR by parts of the media.

Now, I'm not saying that disbanding will actually happen, but i won't be at all surprised if it begins to get more and more discussed.....

Anyone going to Europe in the Summer will be getting a much much better rate for their GBP than they will today. Fact!

There lies the problem (under the carpet). Mervyn gives an honest appraisal of our situation and the europeans try to cover up their situation. Result - we look bad, until the truth comes out.

i just bought some Euros at 1.08 at BBV Bank, for my week in Disney Paris next week

didn't think that was too shabby in the current market
