Get yourself a Nationwide Flex (debit) card and you will get the exchange rate, not the tourist rate at an ATM of any bank. No commission charged, just make sure you select euros not GB pounds when asked, very important as you will get charged commission.

The euro is the worst it has been for some time , I would hang fire for now.

I have just booked in my Euros for a house purchase I am making in 18 months time. The advice I have received is that the euro is set to strengthen further (helped by comments made by the ECB recently) and sterling set to drop against most currencies due to predicted intrest rate cuts over the next few months.
If it doesn't then I've just made a very expensive mistake!

Well I hope that's not the case. We're planning to buy a property in Portugal later this year and are gambling on the £ strengthening and property prices falling in Portugal, as well as everywhere else. Then again it's the gamble you take.

Don't think things are going to move dramatically over the next few months - I was expecting euro rates to be around 1.33 in 2010... May still work that way, the euro could be in for a fall alongside the quid - hell of a job to set rates for a few strong economies in the north, largely tourist/property economies in the south, and developing economies in the west.

A way to reduce the exchange rate risk is to exchange 50% into a Euro bank account now and leave 50% in your UK bank account.
Whichever one strengthens more you'll gain on, whichever one weakens you'll lose on.,.....but they balance each other out so you've lessened the risk of not being able to afford to buy at all.

I'm paying for a wedding abroad, it's getting more expensive by the minute. Good news for my friend who lives in France though, she's trying to sell her house to come back home so should do quite well and be able to buy a better house in UK.

I have recently come back from France where I worked for 3 months and was paid in euros. Just wondering if anyone has any advice about where the best place to change them back into pounds is. I want to change between 300 and 700 euros and have always used the Post Office in the past. Have looked at the travel money maximiser but presumably the buy price for euros isn't the same as the sell price.
    Thanks!
  • Its probably quite a good time to change with the £ being at its weakest for many, many a year.
20 minutes looking at the "BUY" rate of all the companies in the "Maximiser" should give you your answer. You want the LOWEST rate because you are buying £s
There are only 3 colors, 10 digits, and 7 notes; its what we do with them that's important.
