T-mobile voice mail

Options
In my eagerness to leave 3 mobile I signed up with t-mobile, seduced by the number of minutes and texts (my choice how to divvy them up) per month compared to 3, but I failed to notice that t-mobile charge for calling voice mail....I feel such an idiot! does anyone know how to access the t-mobile voice mail for free?:mad:

I did try phoning my mobile number from my mobile, which seemed to work (!) and it went through to the options menu for voice mail access etc...does this call count as an inclusive call when i choose the voicemail option?

all ideas and commiserations gratefully accepted :o

voicemail comes out your allowance like a normal call. or are you on PAYG?

    {edit - I was incorrect, read below)

NOT TRUE anymore. They charge outside allowance. If you have access to another phone with inclusive minutes you could call your own number, let it go to voicemail and press # to access it via a PIN (assuming you've set this up in the first place - which you can do via the menus when you call up voicemail from your own phone).

Doing this from your own phone, AFAIK, will still be charged - but sign up to MyTmoble and check it out...

it's a very sneaky change they've made, along with clocking any call as 1 minute minimum on Flext. The voicemail is still free if you sign up as a business and on some specific plans though but the bulk for personal customers are now charging for sure.
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

sorry I was wrong. You'd thought I'd know when this is my industry.

They changed the T&Cs late last year. Those who signed up after a particular date have been paying for voicemail. Those who signed up before may face this when they upgrade. They did this when they changed the flext allowances for 12 month contracts.

If it helps at all... orange have started doing this too :)

Perhaps if you use the right prefix landline company like 1899 to make the call it will be cheaper? i.e. at weekends 1899.com is 3p a minute to landlines.

Confirmed - T-Mobile voicemail retrieval DOES NOT COME OUT OF YOUR FREE MINUTES OR FLEXT ALLOWANCE (since they changed the T&C's for new customers) & is charged at 12p per minute.

But if you dial your own number (your mobile is engaged & you get bounced to voicemail, if you have direct on busy to voicemail setup) you get through to your voicemail & in this way it acts like a normal mobile call and comes out of your free minutes & are not charged.

    I just tried :-)

thanks to pionofingers for the suggestion.

Just checked and I don't think this works on Flext.

Just phoned and queried their charges and got a snotty scottish woman called Ann being very abrupt with me about it.

Me: 'Just wanted to query these high charges for Voicemail, 0844 and 0800 numbers on my bill'

Ann: 'They are premium rate numbers. It's all in your Terms and Conditions'

Me: 'Oh. So is there anything I can do to avoid being charged such high rates, like I can with my international calling plan?'

    Ann: 'No'

Wow. I now remember why I left T-Mobile 7 years ago and vowed never to return. If they didn't have the G1 then I'd still be on O2.

Personally I'd rather pay a little extra and get normal rates for these numbers. At the moment it costs me 4p a minute to phone international destinations and 20p to phone a number which is 1p a minute on BT. And 8p to phone a free number. Which seems asinine.

Not true; use http://www.saynoto0870.com and just search for the alternative to the 0844, 0845, 0870 etc numbers. I was spending £20 extra a month until I replaced all the premium numbers in my phone with their equivalent 01 and 02 numbers, which are included in your Flext price plan. Victory :rotfl:

So you can use this method to get your voicemail as well, or are you just talking about calling 0870 and 0845 numbers in general?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be getting the G1, and unfortunately it leaves me with no choice other than T-mobile.
  • not voicemail unfortunately, but the 0845 etc it works a treat, and you get through much quicker as well!:rotfl:

    OK, I have another idea/question.

If I get the phone on a business plan, the voicemail is free. Does anyone know the tax implications if I go down this route, and my company order and pay for the phone (and I pay them each month)?

    Does this still work?
I just dialled my Tmobile number from my O2 phone, let it go to voicemail and all i could do was leave a message and rerecord it. nothing else.

and yes i have pin prompt enabled
