Using a carrier bag to line kitchen bin?

A lot of supermarkets are actively encouraging the use of the big, replaceable "bags for life" (ie. by giving them away).
But, what are you now using for pedal bin liners, and sorting your bottles, tins, etc. in the recycling box? I'm rapidly running out of the old free bags and the ones you still get for fruit and veg' are a bit thin. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

My recycling box collection man told me the other day not to seperate it all - they do it all at the plant, so I just stick it all in the one box and they happily take it.
As for kitchen bins, I've got a large one so always use the black sacks anyway. (the biodegradable ones)
I'm all for them getting rid of the plastic bags altogether, I have a couple of fold up fabric ones that I keep in my pocket or handbag that I use if I'm out and always refuse plastic ones. When I'm off to do the supermarket shop I take my insulated or canvas bags.
If they stopped giving them away, like they do in Ireland etc, then it really does make you think twice about what and when you buy."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
I'm still usign the free carrier bags to line my bins. i always take reusable bags with me, but also get the right number of carrier bags that i need for the bins. otherwise you have to buy them, and it jsut works out as the same amount of plastic in the end.August grocery challenge: £50

Use pedal bin liners from Tesco's these days and keep any spare carrier bags for storing newspapers etc., for recycling.0

Given the prolific number of charity bags I get shoved through my door on a weekly basis I never run out as I use these (have a large pedal bin) as an alternative (and free) to buying cheap ones from the supermarket.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Quick tip for anyone going to France for their hols.
Get the reusable bags from French supermarkets, they are huge compared with the UK ones and very strong. We can get a week's shopping from Waitrose in two SuperU bags.0 -

Me too Stephen, was scraping around today and eventually found a titchy one in DD's bedroom.
Mind you, my local Tesco has a big cage outside where customers deposit unwanted carrier bags for Tesco to recycle. In the light of my inbuilt resistence to buying pedal bin liners again after all these years, I can see myself hovering around the cage like a 'bag-lady'!0 -
It's an issue in our house too, because we have an in-cupboard bin that is designed to take carrier bags!
No room for a pedal bin, plus a bin raiding dog.
My have to join in the hovering - was tempted in Morrisons this afternoon to grab a few on my way past.
We have to separate our recycling we have a 2 wheelie bins, 2 boxes and a bag for paper!

Well it's brought out the worst in me now; will nonchalently saunter past the carrier bag recycling cage in the morning and see if any have dropped out on to the floor and need picking up!0
