Do you have a local childrens playgroup/nursery?

My Daughters nursery collect all empty boxes/yoghurt pots/ plastic bottles & packaging for junk modelling.
We do and I do give them some stuff, but tbh with the plastic pots all they do is paint them and throw them in the bin, hardly what I would call recycling.

seems silly to refuse plastic bags then go and purchase plastic bin liners (plastic bags without tesco written on them) and use them

surely all u are doing is now buying plastic bags...
The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.

I have shopping delivered so it comes in carrier bags, I did try it without for a shop once and never again, it was a nightmare! But I keep them and hand them back the following week. HOwever I do use them for rubbish as well, but trying to cut it down. I have a swing bin in the kitchen which I have bought bags for and am using them up and aiming to not buy them again, however I am looking for other options to line it instead. I fill the swing bin, then into the wheelie bin.
I have a compost bucket, so put anything I can into that, packaging goes into the swing bin, so I know it wouldn't need any lining for that, but we do put in waste food, so do I just use smaller plastic bags for waste food and any messy stuff, rather than a swing bin liner? we still have food bags for some things which I reuse as much as I can. I am trying to switch everything, but am looking for cheap replacements that will still work in the same manner.

We don't have card taken away to recycle and I don't drive so taking it to a recycle centre is not possible. I do bag it up seperately and put some in the compost bin, but there is usually rather a lot and I feel bad putting it into the bin, same with plastic. I've kept plastic tubs to use as plant pots, but I can only keep so many. I'm trying to dejunk the house so keeping plastic to reuse and cluttering everywhere up, really isn't helpful, but I hate binning it too.

For the doggy doos - scoop it onto several sheets of newspaper and then drop the doos down the lav and the newspaper in the paper bin.

I wouldn't fancy trying to do that when the dog DO's in the high street on the way to the fields.

Coldn't agree more, me neither, but it's handy for when the dirty deed is done in the garden ;)

:p I live in an energy saving building, yet when I asked my local council for some recycle bins they said that they never put recycle bins in a new build

Obviously ! if you are in an energy saving house it probably already uses a lot of re-cycled material. If you had recycling bins - the house could well start recycling itself !! :D

Am I missing something here?

I thought the whole problem with plastic bags was that they take so long to break down in landfill so why are people still using them as bin liners where they will end up in, yes, landfill?

We recycle everything we can (and do it ourselves as the council won't collect) and use biodegradable bin bags for messy waste.

East Riding Council insist plastic bottles and tins for recycling are put in plastic bags prior to them been put in the recycle bin.
I rang and complained as I don't use plastic bags, they told me to use paper bags. I don't know of any shops that issue paper bags for shopping and no way am I buying any.
    Catch 22 or what
