I use a really weak solution actually - prob about 10% stardrops to 90% water. I use it on my melanine (sp??) surfaces and it makes them lovely and shiny...
  • A questoin about white vinegar. Is it just the stuff that is clear in the bottle, or is it actually called white vinegar? I was looking at some in the supermarket, but didn't buy it as it wasn't actually called white vinegar. Thanks.

No need for the vinegar for this, and you shouldn't really mix vinegar into stardrops.

    Honest :)

You can get really cheap spray bottles - if you don't have any empty ones around, from places like Wilkinsons - as low as 25p; so it's best to have one of each.

And yes, before you say it - the real joke here isn't the use of vinegar - it's the man cleaning the cooker! smile.gif

And who else is going to clean my cooker?

What's the issue with Stardrops and vinegar (acetic acid)? Mine hasn't foamed it way out of the top, eaten its way through the bottle or evolved into a new life form - yet.

It could shift stain(e)s from Surrey. I reckon our magic mix should be called either the Best Universal Grit, Grime & Effluent Remover or the Finest Universal Cleaner Known.

It does smell a little bit "sharp" at first, but it doesn't linger. It is also goes a very long way: my most-used bit of worktop is 600mm by about 1000mm and I only need 1 squirt.

White vinegar is clear (in the same way that white rum is clear). Its proper name is distilled malt vinegar.

The ultimate MSE/OS source for the spray bottle is to use one of the ones under the sink, after using up the contents, thoroughly washing it out and soaking off the label.

....I have bought 5l of white vinegar and some stardrops and I was needing a basic water: vinegar / water:stardrops ratio ?

Also a list of "vinegar" cleaning things and "star drops" cleaning things ?

Am I right in thinking i need to do the two seperately ? Or Can i make an "all purpose" cleaner using the two mixed ?

I know there are loads and loads of threads but I cannot find any easy answers ?

    Hi Madmonkey,

Someone else asked this very question yesterday so I've added your post to that thread to keep all the replies together.

For "vinegar" cleaning things and "star drops" cleaning things, these threads should help:

I think the issue with recommending mixtures of cleaners is that it encourages people to start experimenting. Unless you really know what you're doing don't mix household cleaners!

There are numerous cases of people mixing things with bleach and being overcome with the hypochlorite fumes. There was a story on OS last year of a poster saving her mother who was unconscious.
