Hi we have just received a newer phone on contract and want to reuse the Sony Ericsson w810i on a different PAYG, ideally also debranding as the interface and icons are ruined by Orange.

We tried to contact orange yesterday for a free unlock, no one knew what we were talking about, one tried to start a PAC transfer! The foreign call centre eventually cut us off (after about 30 minutes of holding).

I have a multiserver cable from unlocking and debranding our previous phone (w800i) purchased from eBay.

Will this cable work on the newer w810i (the connections are the same) ?

What site / company is best to buy the new unlocking/debranding software or on-line credits to use with this cable?

Or should I just unlock via a company such as www.unlockexperts.co.uk and then unbrand via the cable later?

you can up grade the k800i firmware to k810 so yes i should think it will be fine

Debranding is sinmple enough and can be done with free software, which on the more recent ericssons enables more themes and the vibrating flash menus. There is a thread on here, I think it is by gaming guy (but don't hold me to that) which tells you specifically how to debrand ericssons. It's quite hard to actually brick your phone doing this, as one time I did something wrong and thought I had killed my phone (said fatal error) however I was able to sort it quite quickly, and now have a great w580i without all the o2 rubbish on it!
