Wallace was the one who said that Tesco have more than 1000 stores. Read the post again and take note of the punctuation.0

So - with all due respect - you haven't seen anyone pulled off a till and given a final warning. If your mate is about to lose his job, it won't be because of thatwallace wrote:And with all due respect to you, there is no way you can possibly know that. Tesco have more than 1,000 stores in the UK, and (regardless of what Head Office says), each store seems to have its own policy. What one cashier can get away with in one store might result in a warning from another if the store manager is more strict.
1) He's claiming to have been one of the checkout managers but can't even spell cashier, sounds extremely unlikely
2) He claims to have "seen people pulled of the checkouts and given a final warning for running through invalid coupons". You wouldn't see somebody pulled off a till and given a final warning, final warnings are not issued next to the till
3) If anyone was given a final warning for accepting coupons the union would be on them like a tonne of bricks. You can't discipline people for accepting something which head office is confirming in writing is acceptable. The only thing they have discretion for at store level is internet vouchers. However stupid you may think Tesco store management are, they aren't going to risk a big public punch-up with the unions over their voucher policy. His mate may have TOLD him that's why he was disciplined, but I think it's extremely unlikely, and if he was he needs to speak to his union rep ASAPThanks to all who post constructively.

I'm sorry to see bickering in this thread again. This is a useful thread but I've already had to post once and we are receiving a number of reports about it. I'm prepared to give 1 last chance for personal comments and sniping to cease. Any more and the thread will be permanently locked.

tesco reply
"Thank you for your email.
We would not reply to a customer via this link.
If a customer is unhappy with any aspect of our business we would require them to contact us direct - we would then be in a position to deal with any query on an individual basis."
i have PMed this to OP but does anyone else feel strongly enough to do something , just read the first 3 pages of thread it goes ofcourse to much farther on and whatever your opinion of using coupons is, the issue here is whether or not the OP was held against her will and embarresed by tesco staff.Div 1 Play Off Winners 2007

I agree that forcing them into a corner is going to get us nowhere. Instead, I dropped into my local Tescos on a whim today, and stiffed them for £10 worth of free beef steaks, wrongly priced at £2.76/kg...

Do you have to write down your name and address when getting a refund for overcharged items? I keep being handed a bit of paper to write down my name and address but it's only this store. Has anyone else had to do this and do you know why this is?0

No-one's being forced into a corner...HO are quite happy to distribute their policy on coupons, Tesco just need to ensure that national policy means national policy and all managers apply their policy consistently.
How would you feel if a store manager turned round to you and told you that the HO overprice policy was applied at managers discretion? No BBQ for you today...Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Today was the only time I've done it, and I wasn't asked to. Had I been asked, I would have refused.
The only time I've been asked for my address in a store was in Asda. For some reason, if you didn't have a car park ticket at the checkout and you paid cash, they were asking you for your address. I declined to give it. They didn't press the matter.
No-one has the right to demand your name and address of you if you're returning a faulty item, claiming refund on mispriced goods, etc.Debt Free Nerd #3100 -

I just think loopholes are best quietly exploited...
The difference is that their "price promise" policy is plastered up all over the store. I saw it in no less than 3 places in the space of 5 minutes. The coupon policy isn't. If you broadcast your price policy all over the store in writing. I believe (though I am no expert) that it's actually illegal to go back on it. I do know that it's illegal to have two different prices on a product and to charge at the higher rate.
For the record, I think Igloo was treated absolutely shamefully. I'd love to see a "customer services" bod try that on me. I'd chew him up one side and down the other.Debt Free Nerd #3100
