Just joined Orange Home Max-should I leave already? 2 days to cancel contract.Help!

Hello all, new to the forum so apologies if any rules broken.
The reason for writing is that I have just joined Orange Home Max for as an existing mobile customer for £35 per month – 400mins 100 txts magic numbers, line rental and BB. BB works fine on Ethernet cable (although only 2.5 speed, not 8!!). I rang cutomer services as it is not set up wireless, I have an ASUS router and they said contact them, I have done so and they say contact Orange! I know the wireless router works as it worked fine with BT. I wrote an email to orange and they have yet to get back to me,so I am not sure what to do.
After reading several forums I am now worried about joining Orange long term and I only have a few days left to cancel. Any advice please on should I stay or should I go.Any recommendations for other providers and mobile deals will be most welcome. Thanking you in advance.

  • I'd cancel in a hurry. Orange are one of the most complained about ISPs in the country.

The highest rated ISPs at the moment are Entanet resellers (UKFSN, ADSL24, Vivaciti, etc.), IDNet, Zen and Be/O2.

As for mobile deals, it'd probably be best to ask in the Mobile Phones sub-forum / cashback jungle

Have you not tried to set up your live-box as supplied by orange? You can do this by cable or wireless but try the cable route first to ensure all is ok you will need this anyway if you wish to use the livebox for voip calls which are free. Watch out for the price increases every month and the changes in the 15 pages of small print that they bury them in also the 1571 and caller ID that they will charge you extra for after 6 months. If you have a line fault it may take you several days on the 0870 no to get your line repaired. Like most of the the phone/ internet providers its all down to how much they can rip you off for! Good luck:rolleyes:

I'm not one to normally disagree but after finding out that the site which rates those ISP's as so high is actually ran by & supported by Entanet themselves then im highly skeptical now.

I wasn't actually referring to the DSL Zone ratings but to the general consensus based on all the feedback from thousands of users one can find in places like thinkbroadband and ISPreview forums.

The topic of DSL Zone and their links to ISPs has been discussed at length on the thinkbroadband forums. Entanet don't own and run DSL Zone themselves. The ADSL24 owners do. My view and that of many people on thinkbroadband is that while DSL Zone may not be independent, there doesn't seem to be much of a bias from their part. I would have the same bunch of ISPs towards the top and the other bunch towards the bottom.

slight correction, dlszoneuk was owned/operated by an entanet reseller, not entanet themselves.
normally, i'd agree, but the same picture is mirrored over many rating sites, and i'm pretty sure adsl24 (or was it ukfsn?) have nothing to do with the site anymore because of such concerns, i could find a link, but it will take time..

I a bit worried by the price increases you mention. Im on a fixed £35 month contract for which I understand I may pay a bit extra if I over use my free minutes on my mobile but I do not understand how they can claim any more money. The broadband works fine at a speed of 2.5 which I can cope with, just having problems with the wireless. I have 2 days to cancel and am now worried about hidden charges they sting you with.Has anyone else experienced suspect billing from Orange?

Quite simply really they just alter the terms of the contract and you don't appear to have the right to refuse it. For example they have recently introduced a 6p call set up charge on every call (landline). They want you to be tied in to an 18 month contract but appear to want to be able to alter the terms at any time to suit themselves. Also unless you are a very long way from your exchange on Home Max you should get more than 2.5mg they are currently delivering 6.5mg to me and I'm in a country village.
  • i joined orange unlimited, i went over their limit, they wrote to me saying they are targetting people who go over 40 Gb, my bandwidth is now restricted to 0.5 meg at peak and sometime in day, some unlimited package that, i have 14 months to go on contract.

I'm probably totally wrong! However, my daughter is on this BB addition to her Orange mobile contract, same £35/month for 18 months including "free" bits and pieces.
She's counting the days until August when she can get out, their CS is terrible as is the mobile service! Isn't the BB limited to 2Mb on this deal? Maybe that's why your speed is so low? Her sync speed is around 2.5.
  • hi all need advice,
Chaged bb and tel from talk talk because of 40 Gb limit, searched around and found orange home max package, £ 24/month includes tel and unlimited usage allowance. 2 computers and xbox connected this seemed a good deal, no more limit apart from fair usage, so i signed up in Nov 07, January 08 i got a letter from them stating my unlimited usage was too high and if it keeps up they would get in touch a few more times, help me reduce my unlimited usage and if it still is too high they would maybe restrict my allowance on my unlimited connection( i am confused). the next day i found my connection had gone from 3 meg to half a meg. when i rang customer services they said i had been restricted, i pointed out to them that they have not followed their own fair usage policy but it has mad no difference. i emailed them and they sent me an email back saying they are targetting users who use more than 40 Gb a month and restricting any who go above this even if they are on an unlimited package, so why dont they put 40 Gb on thier sign up page instead of unlimited.(we know why, its because they would get as many people to sign up). i am contracted to them on an unlimited package but they are using a hidden 40 Gb limit, they dont mention the 40 Gb limit in their tearms contions or fair usage policy and i have another 14 months left on contract. i need to get out of contract, (ARE THEY IN BREACH OF CONTRACT AND CAN I GET OUT WITHOUT IT COSTING ME THE REST OF THE 14 MONTHS FEES). I THINK THIS TREATMENT IS DISGUSTING AND DISHOUNORABLE. ANY HELP AND ADVICE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKYOU IN ADVANCE.
PS, this oranges fair usage statement

Am I likely to be affected by the Fair Use Policy?
If you don't use file sharing software or download large files from the Internet it's unlikely you'll ever be affected by this policy. If you do, all we ask is that you do so considerately, perhaps by downloading outside the peak hours of 6pm to midnight.
What will happen if my use is very high?
If you only occasionally have very high usage, we're unlikely to be concerned. If it is happening regularly, we may either have to reduce the transmission speed of your broadband while we continue to keep an eye on your usage, or suspend your service and/or possibly close your account.

We don't want to do that, and with your support and goodwill we'll work with you to see if we can avoid this happening.

    I got 1 letter.
