Tesco Mobile who piggy back on o2 have launched a new mobile tariff which they seem to have copied from Easymobile/Fresh.

Calls are 15p to any Uk network or landline.Texts to any Uk number are 5p.

In the opening promo you get a sim with £10 of calls for £6.73p.

See https://www.tescomobile.com/valuesim.aspx for full details.

  • From what I can see- tesco value makes a minimum charge of one minute before moving to per second billing!! Not good with 1571 but really bad with mobiles!

    Sorry not quite accurate

min charge 5p (20secs) not quite as bad but how many times do you hit voicemail/ phone switched off on your mobile!!!
I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!
  • Will Tesco Mobile tariff users be able to switch to this new tariff?

  • I think the minimum charge is actually 5p, only 15p to directory enquiries, so that's not too bad. I think the tariff is very good, especially for people who call cross-network a lot.

Catches: can't be used outside the UK, which makes it no good for me. And no GPRS (only 10p/min WAP) and no MMS.

For some people this is a good tariff, IMO, especially with the introductory offer. But it won't suit everyone.

Yes i spoke to there CS and they say you can change your tariff.

Regarding min charge dont some other mobile payg networks have one?
    PF.
  • These prices seem to be exactly the same as easymobile and fresh (in the same way O2, Orange and Vodaphone used to always be the same) can see this running the same for a long time until the regulator steps in and talks about price fixing.

I can see no obvious difference between them and am about to take the plunge with easymobile

They do. I believe they all charge 5p minimum call charge except Vodafone PAYG which is 10p minimum call charge.

Tesco operate real-time balance enquiry from the handset. EasyMobile don't but not sure about Fresh but I don't think they do either.

For those that need to know their balance at anytime then Tesco's new plan is best!

Hi all, Easymobile DO NOT have a minimum charge, for those calls where I get an answer phone I am often not charged a penny! Plus it is easy (no pun intended..lol) to check your balance on their website, for someone like me who is on every day that is ideal. Hope that helps. Mind you if I wasnt already on easymobile and happy I would be getting one of these value sims.

.... anyone know what network Tesco use, I suspect it will be Orange, T mobile, O2 or vodaphone. I only ask as I got some old phones that are locked to some of these so not worth me paying to get them unlocked, but might be worth gettin the sim for the free mins as the Sim should work if on the same network.
