"flight on virgin atlanitic from heathrow"
Don't want to sound picky, but you might want to check the flight from Heathrow part as I thought Virgin flights to Orlando went from Gatwick....

When we went to Orlando last time we stayed on International Drive mostly because of the variety of eating there (we like our food!!), all within walking distance which meant the driver (ie me!!) could drink as well. There is a trolley that goes up and down international drive most of the day. May I also reccomend the DIS forums?? They have a lot of good information including a very helpful UK section. http://www.disboards.com/

Hope that helps in some way.

    Hi,

Looking for Feb, flights would be £350 each, Disney Accomodation for one week (do Disney this week) £650 and the the rest for a week on International Drive so you can do the likes of Seaworld, shopping, Universal/IofA and so on - easily for £500. Looking at prices, you could do Portofino Bay luxury spa resort for a touch of luxury and stay 'on site' at Universal for £800 and get free fast passes. Likewise you can stay at Loews Royal Pacific for £650 and that is in Universal too. If you shop around you can get some great prices for International Drive and many include transport and freeshuttle buses, but book it yourself otherwise you'll pay more for agents fees and that is a bit of a waste of money. Even getting a cab from the airport would save you a fortune (speak to the hotel though as many run shuttles and you may be able to nbook onto this).

I personally find that planning is the key and it sounds a bit pedantic but plan each day to make the most of it and get to see what you can. Take a look on disboard.com and make sure that the rides you want to do are not going to be shut for refurb as you'll be disappointed if this is the case.

    Hth.

    Hi tonki,

I had my honeymoon in Orlando too. Agree what has been said about I-Drive having everything on your doorstep. If you are looking at I-Drive though I find it very much a street of two halves, with the half north of Sandlake Road less pleasant (in my opinion) than that to the south of Sandlake (ie the bit between Sandlake Road and SeaWorld). South of Sandlake is much greener, the big hotels are there, the places all look lovely. North of Sandlake is more strip-mall ish, lots of fast food joints etc, lots more concrete and neon signs. Though the new outlet shopping mall at the top is great.

I'd be interested to hear if others feel the same.

    Hi Ginga,

Look on the Virgin website for flights - hit half term and they will go up so lok to go before or after.

The flight prices for Feb have not yet hit any websites yet so give it another fortnight and you'll get a better idea so have a look after then. However, fly during the week as it is cheaper and also avoid half term as the prices go up!!

    Hi Blue_Monkey,
Thanks for that, the flights that I need aren`t available at the moment you are right but I need to be there by the 22 Feb, I believe in some areas this may be half term (I`m taking my hubbie as a surprise for his 40th sssshhhhh don`t tell him its a secret!) so I may be stuck.... do you think I will be better booking early ?? & do you think virgin will be the best to fly with ??

    Many thanks

    Hi Ginga,

I would say earlier is better than late - there is always that chance that they might sell out and then it is booked. Why not go out on 22nd as this will be the tail end if anything else and prices should go down, my son's birthday always falls on HT and he is 15th Feb - they might give him something extra on the flight if you tell them (Champagne or something). Find out when Spring Break is though if you can (maybe go over to Disboards and post there when it is - I think it is generally after Easter), my friend went to LV and there were teenagers drunk everywhere, not nice, especially if you have kids.

Oh, I just wanted to add, we have only ever flown with Virgin, I like what they have for the kids, understanding staff. They also have Vroom at Gatwick now which you might be able to get a deal on as well. Did you sort accomodation out?? check Expedia, it is much cheaper on there - again you will have to be paitient and wit until March time to book it - but I would seriously think about what I said to Tonki, there is a hotel called Radisson Celebration that is almost on top of disney (last bus stop if you are not driving) on Highway 192 and the bus stops outside (out of the hotel, turn right and up to H192, 30 second walk) and then International Drive for week 2.

Just wanted to add to Tonki if she is still there - Disney is a good way from International Drive so if not driving have a think about this. You'll spend an hour or more on the bus getting there wach day and if the bus is full then you'll be pretty much stuck. We went off peak and the shuttle bus was full on Day 1.
