Sky Loophole!! TV, broadband and phone for £6/mth

If you agree to an 18 month line contract, they'll reconnect you for £62. I've done it this week."Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato

I'm an existing Virgin Media subscriber to their broadband and TV package. My contract with them is about to run put so was thinking of switching to sky and getting the cashback. Problem is we don't have a BT Landline and I've been told it costs up to £150 to install and then have to pay line rental on top. Is this true? I'm not even bothered about having a phone, but I think I need it to get the full cashback. Can anyone help out? Thank you. :j0

I had Sky installed at a property that had an existing dish. I didn't tell them when I phoned up and they didn't mention it when I signed up.
When the Sky engineer arrived and saw the existing dish, he smiled and said "Brilliant, saves me a job". I still insisted that we swapped the dish as it looked pretty old, which he happily did and he ran new cables into the house, but it saved him having to drill new holes for the dish.
My experience with Sky engineers is if you look after them and keep them happy they'll help you out. Most are contractors, and all simply have a set amount of jobs they have to get done. It's in their interest to get in and get out asap, as thats what they get paid for. They are not going to pick up the phone and start telling Sky that you already have a dish.
Most are happy to arrange "private jobs" so its worth getting their number just incase you want them to come back and install a magic eye in another room or something like that.

Hi,
Quick question, previous owners had a dish and topcashback says if we already have a dish we cannot apply...is this the same for the other cashback sites? I couldn't find anything saying this on the others, also..
We are already on an 18 month broadband package with AOL so we cannot sign up to Sky Broadband - would this affect us applying or can we just select TV alone?0 -
QUIDCO. Not saying they are good or bad but booked tickets from hotelopia via quidco and 10% refund. Got it within 2 months. £120.
PS Been with $ky since day one. Not got a single freebie out of them. But $ky+ really is the business. Cant remember the last advert we had to watch!0 -
sky rarely do anything for existing customers (even longstanding loyal customers, such as myself, who have been with sky for years and years).
all their offers/promotions are aimed at winning new business/new customers.
once they've got you they don't really care.
if feel like cancelling just to re-sign up as a 'new' customer to get an offer or some cashback.
anyone know how long you have to have cancelled for before they consider you a new customer?? (then again could just sign up in a different name?)0 -
Sky really haven't thought this through. Usually to get a sky plus box it costs a one off fee of £119 (although £99 if you're lucky enough to get the new recent offer) plus £30 set-up fee, making a rather expensive £149 total. We only had a tight budget so this is what we did.
To get a half price sky+ box we tried to haggle and as usual they had none of it, the only way to get it cheaper was to take out the multi-room package (with free installation) on the sky deal which would put your bill up by a standard £10 per month, but we didn't want that so after a slip of the tongue from the operator we discovered the loop-hole is that there is no minimum contract for multi room so by taking out the offer and paying £75 for the sky+ box, in THE SAME phone call we simply asked the operator to cancel the multi-room from our account so no extra monthly cost just a nice little deal on the box!! Cheers!

Is it me?
This is 'Money SAVING Expert' isn't it?
Alot of posts seem to encourage people to go and get something they wouldn't otherwise bother with until they see the suggestion.
Who the devil wants to pay 40 odd quid a month to see yet more drivel on their screens?
MHO only of course0 -
Sky is excellent, i am a subscriber of sky+ and the service is superb, im on a basic package which is £18 a month which still gives me more than enough TV to watch. There is no other system that provides the usability and convenience of skys remote control and on screen menus. A few teething problems when i moved house but all was sorted courteously and quickly by a scottish operator. I would reccommend sky to anyone. I have heard of far more complaints from people with Virgin media.
I also have a sky credit card which gives me loyalty points which pays for my sky bill, infact i have enough points to pay for the next 18 months subscription.
If you introduce a friend via the sky website you will both receive £40 (i think, but might be £30) of M&S vouchers each, (maybe this can be used in conjunction with the £150 cashback offer too!!?)
Ps if you want to speak to a Scottish rep and are unlucky enough to get through to New Delhi then i would suggest you tell them you want to cancel your subscription - they will ALWAYS put you through to Scotland in this instance.
To recap - sky is superior to any other service!!0 -
Stupid question here.
Would I still be able to use my PVR to record the digital channels available on set top box?
Thanks0
