:T I can't see what all the fuss is about you either like Sky or you don't, I don't, having experienced nothing but trouble with it as has my son-in law who gave it two goes. the customer service is awful and you still have to pay to view a lot of stuff. The people that praise Sky forgot to mention that. I am quite happy with five channels and keeping my money.I can't see how anyone can possibly think Sky is expensive given both the quantity and quality of their content!
I pay about £55 a month for the full package with sports and movies including HD with Sky+. Given that this is a paltry £1.80 a day I think it's an absolute bargain - I spend more than that on wine alone.
I did all the maths and worked out the cost of the odd DVD rental as well and Sky was way cheaper than any other combination.
Personally I'd go for the full package with HD (which is brilliant for movies and sports) .
I've had their broadband for about six months and it's generally been pretty good. The odd outage but no worse than my previous providers - BT & then Pipex.
The real winner for me though is the "on demand" nature of the Sky+ box and the way I can set it to record every episode of a series or a set of sports events etc. I hardly ever watch a programme in "real" time any more and always zap straight through the commercials. It's totally changed the way I think about watching TV.
I've got some friends with Virgin and they've had nothing but problems with their internet connections and their customer service is awful. Sky can be patchy in this regard but in general they've usually been quite helpful whenever I've had to call them.
Oh well, I guess you can't please all the people all of the time but I'm definitely one happy customer!0 -
Just a note to say - DO CHECK THE SMALL PRINT.
If you live in an area where SKY Broadband Network does not exist then the deal for free 2mb of broadband does NOT apply. For us, it'd cost £17 extra to have the broadband added!"A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be pursuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford." Broadcast HD is only 720 not 1080 (unlike HDDVD [RIP
] and Blu-Ray). You can get the same quality by buying an Upscaling DVD player (around £50) and subscribing to a monthly DVD rental like Lovefilm.
If you are into sports though Sky HD is the way to go.
HD broadcasts in the UK are1080i. 720P is used by some networks in the US e,g Fox ABC but most are 1080. Upscaling isn't as good as 720P HD. you can't upscale what's not there in the original signal.
I tried to get the Sky HD for £99 deal in December. Sky cocked the order up and I didn't get it. I had to email the MD to get my money back. The call centre is hopeless at sorting any kind of problem out.0 -
I took this offer up yesterday, but Quidco has tracked at £130 instead of £150, which was their previous offer. Have sent an email...
I spent a long time pricing up providers for cost of broadband/phone calls etc, and by adding on the £5 to Sky for free daytime calls I'll be saving loads and getting TV thrown in to boot. Just hoping I'm one of the ones who gets good service..."A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it." :wall:

It's worth putting it in your basket and checking - I did the 'Mid £5' offer, and they said I would have to be on 'Connect', but would still only charge me £5 for it instead of £17. Then if/when they get their network up they will just swap me over to it.
Didn't seem to be any difference, unless anyone knows anymore? I'm guessing it's the 16mb that would be more affected as not many normal lines can reach that speed... I'm sure someone more techy than me can confirm otherwise!"A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it." :wall:

I love this site, but envy anyone who can get broadband at any cost. I live in Rural Lincs, where we do have a BT line, but it's so far to the exchange that broadband speeds are inaccessible. I struggle on with my dial up at 35-42 KBS. BT will not update the exchange or the lines, what are we to do?0

I'm keen to get a cheaper package, and would like this Sky package.
I tried to get it, and chatted to a Sky advisor but in my area (Near Cheddar in Somerset) they want to charge me £17pm for BB, add £16 for calls (only eve-W/e) and £10 line rental- £43pm is more than I'm currently paying with TalkTalk/BT!
Can anyone suggest a cheaper deal?
Best at moment is Tiscali at £19.99 anytime calls inc BB and £9 line rental.0 -
PS - thanks to the person who mentioned the "friend" offer for HD, I'm going to try and track that one down as my my mum is just about to sign up for HD (her partner is a big sports fan and having seen it in HD at my place he's desperate for her to get it!).
There's a referrers board here where people post these offers if it helps."A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it." :wall:
