Can i just ask current sky customers, the online 'chat with a customer service member' thing i got when going through the order process, can you do this as a form of support once you are a subscriber? Or is it the same old 'be on hold for 50 years and we'll think about answering' option after that?0

Cable isn't cheaper for broadband, I'm with cable and have been since it was Nynex, and Virgin are billing me £18 a month for 2 meg, and not even supplying the full 2 meg.
I get TV and phone too, for another £23 but the phone has been iffy since the cable got damaged while a tree was being removed in the garden, so we don't use the phone anymore - paying £11 line rent for something we can't use
I rang Virgin on the 150 customer service number in the evening last week, to ask how much notice I needed to give, had to listen to 4 minutes of instructions, only to be told at the end of it that they weren't open - and have been billed 20p for the privilege. That used to be free.
We asked for the cable to be redone last year, but were told by the engineers that they had 'lost the technology' to relay a cable under a block paving drive - it was originally 'moled' in by Nynex. It's not rocket science for heaven's sake! I suspect they're just worried they'll get billed if the drive sinks down where they put the mole in ( it did last time - we didn't claim.)
I'm just so tired of trying to wrangle a deal out of them all the time - we do have an £8.50 discount, which is now permanent, but that doesn't even cover the cost of the useless phone line.
I plan to swap to Sky through Topcashback as soon as I've had my BT line reconnected on Friday. And maybe later to Tiscali when they start doing TV in my area! They are unbundled at my local exchange, and I don't live very far away. Should get about 6 meg out of the 8 on offer, with either Sky or Tiscali.
I guess the only way to keep the price down is to keep swapping at the end of the first year, when the price goes up - we do it for car insurance already, anyway. Is there any reason this won't work for TV/Broadband/phone?"Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato

Does anyone know if I would be classed as a 'new' customer for this deal? I have the dish and the box for the 'freesat' but have never subscribed.0

I notice there are a lot of negative comments in this thread aimed at Sky. I was a Sky customer for 4 months and found a way to cancel the contract without incurring any further penalty fees/bills.
Just ring them up and say you're moving to a property where Sky minidishes are not allowed on the property at all. This is actually quite commonplace, especially on new estates. Drive around your nearest new housing estate and if you can't spot any Sky dishes then it's a safe bet that there's a similar system in place there.
I wrote Sky one simple cancellation letter and got a confirmation letter by reply within a week or so. It was absolutely no hassle. Obviously I gave them the new address I would be living in, to prove that everything I said was true, but I can't see how they'd check I'm living there.
Do this at your own risk, but it worked for me and all it took was one simple letter to get out of their overpriced, stuffy contract. (Saying that VM aren't much better!!)"The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0 -
If it's only just been disconnected, you shouldn't have any trouble getting it reconnected - I'm having to pay £62 to get mine reconnected, as I've been on cable for years. And that's only if I agree to an 18 month line contract, otherwise it's twice as much."Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato

I had Sky installed at a property that had an existing dish. I didn't tell them when I phoned up and they didn't mention it when I signed up.
When the Sky engineer arrived and saw the existing dish, he smiled and said "Brilliant, saves me a job". I still insisted that we swapped the dish as it looked pretty old, which he happily did and he ran new cables into the house, but it saved him having to drill new holes for the dish.
My experience with Sky engineers is if you look after them and keep them happy they'll help you out. Most are contractors, and all simply have a set amount of jobs they have to get done. It's in their interest to get in and get out asap, as thats what they get paid for. They are not going to pick up the phone and start telling Sky that you already have a dish.
Most are happy to arrange "private jobs" so its worth getting their number just incase you want them to come back and install a magic eye in another room or something like that.0 -
i might be the minority but i have found sky a pleasure to deal with
i got installation and a sky+ box for free and all i had to do was ask
