Hi,l have had the same problem. l am currently with Talk Talk too.Have just registered to move my line back to BT,but that wont be done til 27th March, which might be too late for the offer. To top it all,l phoned Sky and was advised that as l am in a flat l cant place an order online anyway.it has to be done over the phone! Think l will give up and stay wth Talk Talk although l hate them!!

You're not wrong there. I hate Talktalk too. Only this week, after several months of problem free connection, I am once again having connection problems.

I'm just glad the 18 months contract is almost up. Just waiting for a suitable alternative to come along. Doubt I'll get a hassle free transfer though.

What happens when you move back to BT. is there a minimum term, or can you have the line rental from Sky.

Update 11 March 2008: Offer still open, but less promoted. This offer is still available, but being less promoted, my suspicion is Sky is trying to level off demand; not a problem though as you can still get it.
    What's the deal?

Until the end of March, new customers who sign up to a Sky package via a special cashback website can get £150 cashback on the deal.

Taking this into account, those who have BT landlines can get a year's basic TV package (including installation) plus broadband (depending where you live see later), and free evening & weekend calls for a total of £72 (the equivalent of £6/month). Considering most cheap broadband packages by themselves cost £10/month, this is a ridiculously cheap deal.

You can also get higher level TV packages and still get the cashback.
    How this cashback deal works

Cashback sites are specialist 'advertising' websites that list retailers and product providers. They get paid by the retailers if you click through them, but importantly they then give some or all of this cash to you (provided you've registered which is free).
    • The Top Cashback Sites.

There are a number of sites that pay £150: Topcashback, CashbackKings, Quidco (though it currently has some payout reliability issues) and Wepromiseto. Regulars can go with the one they prefer. New cashback site users will find Topcashback the winner as all the others keep the first £5 you earn a year.

Usually the standard Sky cashback is usually around £100, so this a top deal which changes the economics.
    • WARNING! Cashback sites are never 100% guaranteed payout.

As cashback sites rely on the retailers paying them, you can never count cashback as a sure thing until it's in your bank account.

However, all my feelers & research say its very likely this one will work smoothly. Sky is aware its being pushed heavily, especially by Topcashback, and Sky is actually rewarding the cashback sites on who gets better sign-ups.

Overally it's pretty unlikely that anyone won't get the cashback, yet unlike a retailers cashback deal, this system it isn't guaranteed.
If you're a first time cashback site user, please do read the full Best Cashback Sites article for a full explanation of the pros and cons. Plus to see how the different sites payouts compare use the Cashback Sites Maximiser

What is available on this cashback deal?

All mainstay Sky packages are available, so if you are going to sign up to Sky, this is a massive cost cutter.

    The Basic Package

Sky’s cheapest package is £16 a month, plus £30 installation. In other words the total layout over the 12 month minimum contract term is £222. Take off the £150 cashback and you're paying £72 for the year.

However its worse remembering that all Sky customers using its phone service will need to pay BT's £10.50 (ish) monthly line rental too.

    For this you get:
    • Sky Box: Just the standard. The Sky Plus recordable box is £99 more.
    • Basic Sky Channels: One basic entertainment channel 'mix'. These are quite extensive see a list, though again you could upgrade to selected packages, but they're not that cheap.
    • Sky Talk Freetime, which includes free evening and weekend telephone calls (though you can do this for free anyway; so don't necessarily need this - full details and how to cut call costs are in the Cheap Home Phones article)
    • 2Mb Broadband. Most Sky TV customers (it depends on location check on this page) get its basic broadband for free. The 2Mb speed is fast, though some other providers offer faster. The download limit is 2Gb, which is plenty for standard home users. Again if you want it faster you can upgrade. See Cheapest Broadband for how it compares and explanations of terms.
As a comparison, if you were to get Virgin's similar offer you'd pay roughly £30 a month right now though this does include the telephone line rental. This Sky deal is £16.50 a month including line rental.

Remember this is costed on a year

The savings above have been worked out over the first year (the minimum contract length). After that of course you'll be paying the full whack. So it's worth putting that date in your diary and considering whether you really need this deal or could get it cheaper. Read the Digital TV Cost Cutting article for details on how to save cash on existing deals.

    Go quick!

Normally Sky cashback deals only pay about £100 for new customers so this is top deal. This offered is scheduled to end on 31 March, but my weekly e-mail now goes out to over 1.8 million people, and when similar offers have been included, sites pulled their cashback offers quickly. So grab it now if you want it.

    Martin

Am really struggling to get this offer, have tried using Top cashback & cashback kings but none of the links seem to work or it says I'm living in the wrong country, I would like to do this sooner rather than later,ANY HELP ANTONE.

I too hate TalkTalk - my contract has been with them for years, and up to LLU I was pretty happy with 2mb broadband, free phone calls and all for about £20 a month.

Now I'm LLU'd, I'm supposed to get about 5mb (based on distance to exchange) but most days it kicks off at around 700k, and has to be rebooted to get anything above 2mb. Add to that consistent noise on the phone line (that they have tried to fix more times than I've had hot dinners), last week I signed up to BT Option 1 for 18 months, and bit the bullet on cost.

I would have liked to just go to Sky, but got the same message, so I believe I need to get back with BT before changing and it was no point just trying to come back to BT with the phone alone, as god knows what would have happened to my Broadband from TalkTalk.

So I stay with BT for 18 mths then consider my options for a new supplier.

NB you can do minimum 12 mths with BT, but the costs are more.
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing! ;)

Hi. There is a minimum 18 month term with BT,but you need the basic line with BT for this deal with Sky. Still dont think that l will get to change as it is so much hassle!

Except, except - the deals only as good as the actual performance. I applied for Sky Broadband and got mucked around for weeks. Basically they don't know what they are doing. If it works first time you are laughing: if not expect weeks of being passed from one person to another, never getting anywhere, with Sky CS blaming BT and other internal Sky departments. If you know what you are doing yourself, as I did, this is hugely frustrating.

I pulled the plug on this charade and got BT Broadband installed and working EXACTLY when BT said they would. I KNOW BT have all the aces here, but Sky were my third ISP (BT are No. 4 now), and NONE of the other ISPs came anywhere close for **total inability** to perform on a technical, logistic or admin. level. (Others were Pipex and what is now Tiscali)

Stay clear of Sky whatever the deal!

BT are hardly whiter than white tho'

Watchdog had some cracking complaints about their own useless-ness, so I reckon if you get it working 1st time out (from Sky) then you should be OK.

  • I went through the registration but when it came to the end, it said that we already had Sky!, we have owned the house for 20 years and never once have we had Sky, so looks now like we can't take advantage of the offer and will have to look elsewhere for a good deal.. Has anyone else had this problem??
  • Sky was in my hometown in Swansea over the Christmas period and was still there up till over a week ago and they were still offering new customers the Sky+ package of £49.00 plus £30 installation charge with a deal of £16 starter package

The Sky+ package was undercutting Virgin Media V+ box of £150 install charge.

The guy on the stall stated that there are a large numer of "Free to view" channels availabe but none are available with Virgin Media. You can keep the Sky+ box as your own even after you finished your subscription after 12 months with Sky and you still get the "Free to view" channels but with the similar deal with Virgin Media V+ box or the standard box you get nothing because when you stop the subscription with Virgin Media they switch off the signal to the box and the box remains the property of Virgin Media. They send someone round to collect the box after you've terminated your subscription. No "Free to view" channels are available with Virgin Media.

They even had a sticker stating "Virgin Media Customers Welcome"

Is there a much better deal to obtain a Virgin Media V+ box without having to pay the staggering £150 or is there a much cheaper way than the £75 that they are charging new customers?
  • hi there,
I'm currently with talktalk and was wondering instead of transfering my line rental to bt and hoping that this offer still stays on in this period can I have sky tv and not any talk or broadband package and still get the £150 cashback?

please answer my question as I really don't won't to make a hasty decision.

    Regards
    Ash
