I always use the basics natural yogurt (500ml) for 55p. Very cheap and excellent in cooking.
Basic crumpets (can't remember price) but nice and thick and we prefer over more expensive brands.0 -
I know this is an old thread but this week we did a basics challenge- we had all our products as basics with just a few items (baby milk, veggie mince and kids vitamins) that you cant get in the basics range at our sainsbugs.
we have tried and really liked:
garlic bread
pizza (ok but a bit doughey and needs extra cheese)
corn flakes
rice pops
peach slices in juice (tin)
apples
scotch pancakes
grated mozerella (in a small bag)
bread
red leicester
jaffa cakes (hubby approves i dont eat them)
bin liners
roll on deoderant
toothpaste
baby bath (2 in 1)- no rashes and get the babies clean
ill update as we try more things.
we spent £140 on a two week shop- delivered for free as i found a £10 off code online for delivery.
I will definately be buying basics from now on.
has anyone tried the washing powder and is it any good???yes i have 6 kids by two different fathers, but Im the parent that is there for them ALWAYS!! :A0 -
Basics 100g White Chocolate 30p -
surprisingly nice for cheap white chocolate (and I mostly prefer good quality choc). No good for the diet, though0 -
Basics is a very good range - always decent quality which is more than can be said for Tesco or Asda's equivalents. The only thing I haven't liked is the curry sauce.
Special mentions for the garlic bread, rice, pasta, spaghetti, chicken, diced pork shoulder, sausages (if you like 'em cheap and simple), the biscuit range, the chocolate (as someone else mentioned - delicious for just 30p) and their summer fruits cordial is amazing. It's definitely worth downgrading on a large number of the products in Sainsbury's. The fruit and veg is the main thing - it's never any worse quality, just more odd shapes and sizes.0 -

I tried it a while ago when I was a student. As it says on the box, cleans, no added promises
I run the Back to Sainsbury's Basics blog, but am currently unable to update it till mid-July. If you're interested in contributing content (mostly recipes, browse there for ideas), perhaps relating your experiences with the Basics range through what you cook, send me a private message and we can take it from there!0 -
Got some YS Sainsbury's Basics Mozzarella pearls and they were fine in salad0
-
Basics custard praised in the Daily Mail today. Tasty and low in fat.0

I agree. It's a lot cheaper and just right. Same for the foil.0 -
