When does upgrade become.............

I am due to upgrade tomorrow. I know I have to register and charge up battery, the thing is, I will be retaining the same number, so when exactly does the old phone cease to operate and the new one become active.

So are you saying that I need NOT use the new sim card which presumably will be in the package, merely to swap them over ?. If so, should registration come first, then swap?.

If this is so, should I throw the new unused sim card away, or is there a market for them?. I know these are dumb questions, but I like to think there are others out there who also gain information as a result of my questions.

When you say you are upgrading are you taking out a new contract and porting your number over thus having a new sim card but same number or are you just upgrading and getting a new phone? If it just a new phone there is no need for another sim card you take the one out of the older phone and put it in your new phone and you old phone wont cease working it will just need another sim to put in it.

Sorry if ive miss understood the post.

Hi. Think I've understood thanks. I have a samsung e800 and am still in contract. I am having a new sony ericsson k750i and starting a new contract and they say I'm keeping the same number. Given that if I take the old sim card out for my new phone, I will have a samsung e800 complete with simcard for sale. But as I will have taken the phone number from it, how will it be allocated a new number?.

If you are using your old simcard for the new phone you won't be registering the new simcard in which case if you sell the old phone the buyer would then register the new simcard icon7.gif

No need to put the NEW simcard in if you are going to use your old simcard, you just charge it and put in your old simcard

Sudden thought, the two contracts are with the same company aren't they that will enable you to use the old simcard in the new phone, or will it need to be unlocked?

edinburghlass, when you get to my age etc etc. Yes, the phone is new and from orange. Whilst I'm happy to use the old simcard, something tells me that I MUST register the new phone with the new simcard in. So what's this unlocking about?

what is the something that is telling you this???!!! please let us know or, follow.....

    Old phone - with orange
    Old sim - orange
    New phone - with orange
    New sim - orange

If all the above is true.

When you get the new phone, charge it up, take out old sim for old phone and put it into new phone.
