Brilliant cards...............love the diagonal cut mumoftwo - never thought of doing that.
Popped into out craft shop this morning and they've got the stuff for exploding boxes.............oh I was tempted but never having done anything so adventurous I cried off. They did do a class at the shop doing one but I missed it..........£7 it would have cost anyway so maybe I'll see if I can find instructions somewhere, If I remember right, I think they were on a website
www.craftsbycarolyn.co.uk so I'll have a look and see.

I am right in thinking a 'gate card' is a card where the front is two sides that meet in the middle aren't I ?

I've made a couple of these (well one is still in the process of being made)
I did a new years one for MIL (her Christmas card got lost in the post)
Down the left hand side I put a lot of images of clock faces............than I added a sort of strip to the edge that sort of stuck out( but laid flat when the card was closed ) and put Happy New Year on it. On the right hand side of the card I put a ribbon down the centre of it with a floral embelissment. I found the old fashioned words for Auld Lang Syne, printed them off and stuck them inside the card.
Tried to do Mums mothers day card using these cards as I'd had some given me but I trimmed a bit off each side for decoration and the cards I've got are long and narrow...........blessed thing kept falling down so I cut out what I'd done and put it on a normal card.
In the process of doing one for MIL's birthday -not sure that will work as it won't stand up very well..............made the mistake with that one of very trimming the front edges so I could put some flowers in the middle with a cone shaped cover over them so they looked like a bouquet if you know what I mean..Not sure whether I'll carry on with it or not. If it won't stand up properly I'll have to re-think. Maybe it's because its a tall card ?
I wonder if I cut some off the bottom it would stand up then..............be interesting to see what you come up with polly.

If you scroll back to about page 13 or 14 of the thread mumoftwo gave a couple of suggestions. I know this was about a wedding card but still might be useful.

  • For humour - I made all my own Christmas cards last year by cutting out the most unlikely photos of people or animals from the weekend magazine that comes with my paper (The Guardian is great, loads of photos in all the sections - as well as being a decent paper!) - politicians, movie stars, whatever - preferably with them looking a bit stern or unhappy, and then pasting on to a blank card, then making a speech bubble on brown paper saying 'Merry Christmas' - and pasting that on - and they went down very well indeed :) It was the irony. Obviously not eveyone would get it, but for something a bit more original.....

That is a great idea! Very creative.
I did one similar for my daughter who is totally crazy about Zach Effron from High School Musical. I copied a picture from google images and copied it into paint. Then made a speech bubble with Happy Birthday and lots of kisses. She absolutely loved it.
