Could anyone give me your opinion on re-heating plain boiled rice? I've heard it's not a good idea but I'm not sure why??
Seems a shame to throw away leftovers.
Thanks for any advice.0 -
Another €25 spent to-day, bringing my total to €185.64, leaving me with €164.64 to last until the end of March...will need eggs this week, no idea who has being doing away with so many...opened a tray of 20 the other day and there are 5 left!
While dinner was cooking I decided to be frugal and steam the potatoes over a pot of my favourite leek and potato soup that I was making...when they were cooked OH took up the potatoes....and strained my soup down the drain...I was so upset that I shouted at him and then burst into tears...I felt like killing him tbh....he has now gone off to bed in a huff and I am trying to become more rational...just fancied the bl**dy soup for my dinner....DDs are falling round the place laughing at me which is not helping!

"I've heard that reheating rice can cause food poisoning. Is this true?
It's true that you could get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. But it's not actually the reheating that's the problem – it's the way the rice has been stored before reheating.
Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.
So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.
It's best to serve rice when it has just been cooked. If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) and keep it in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.
Remember that when you reheat any food, you should always check that it's piping hot all the way through, and avoid reheating more than once."

Thanks for that angelnikki. I guess, being 37 weeks pregnant, I'd rather be safe than sorry!0 -
My son was in charge of budgeting for this week. We get paid fortnightly so we take it in turns and he was supposed to buy everything pay his share of the bills and have enough money for the week. At 23, I don't think that is too much to ask. He ran out of money on Wed and I used the £20 I had in the bank. We ran out of that today and because we are both diabetics and have to have emergency sugar in the house, we had to buy sugar. Ended up with £10 of groceries.Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time0

Hi everyone!
Managed to use one of the money off coupons but it was soooo complicated. Since we've not got much left to buy for March we had to buy alot of things we'll need for April (non-perishable) and a bottle of wine (not included in GC budget) in order to reach the £40 mark. Can't believe they've sent me 6 vouchers to use.......
I am however delighted that the money we've saved will pay for salmon for next month. I don't think I could live without it-even on the Grocery Challenge.
I'm feeling quite positive that we'll do well this month as only got one or two bits left to get plus our long term goods contribution to pay. I'll update my sig.
Keep up the good work everyone... :T
