Hullo...I overspent a bit in Feb (note to self - don't take OH grocery shopping; get him to come carry the bags AFTER shopping is complete!)

I'm off on holiday for a long weekend but will be back on the challenge from 4th March.

Mrs Mcawber could you add me onto the list please? £100 for two people (not including eating out or non-edibles).

    See you all soon.
    Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

  • oh, I'd like to join this one! £50 a week for us.

Funny thing for us, if my Wife or I shop by ourselves, we'll spend less, than when we shop together - because we like to buy things for each other!

Anyway, £50 will be a challenge with Friends and family planning to visit us for a few days across the month!

Quick question - does anyone do this whilst still shopping 'Ethically' (local/organic/free rn
ange produce)? if so, how do you find it? Is it a lot harder? At this time we're wanting to eat organic foods, as my OH is breastfeeding -so we want as little chemicals etc to go into his system as possible!

Oh it's not just me and mine then! I went one week with a budget of £16. Next thing I know we're at the till and its £57! Thats why I'm going tonight while he's late at work! :rotfl:
  • Good afternoon fellow GC-ers.

    I'm in again for March.

Mrs McC - please put me down for £225 again, thanks

Done my "main" shop this afternoon, split between Aldi and Mr T, total spend of £100.61

Sadly - the Tesco shop turned out to be extra, extra expensive as some kind person scraped all down the side of my car and just drove off, leaving me with an estimated repair bill of about £250    - you know, maybe I'm just a mug but, if that had been me, I'd have either left my details on a note on the screen or gone into the store and left my details there.!!

Oh well, rant over, thanks for listening :o

Is it a universal thing then - if the OH goes with you, you lose focus and spend double what you had planned?! Shopping by myself isn't as much fun, but it sure does save more money!:T

Platinum Horse - I use mine to save petrol and he is useful pushing the trolley so I can have a browse, but in our case its alcohol (wine, whiskey ) that ends up in the trolley! Or he remembers things 'he must have/try'! I also feel guilty about buying cheaper brands when I'm with him (we've just moved in together) but he doesn't complain when eating them so ! :rotfl:
  • Afternoon all :) Just seen the list on the 1st page, didn't realise there was so many of us!

Have started today instead of tomorrow because i had to go into town and thought i'd get all the toiletries and stuff for my HM cleaners whilst i was there.

Spent £16 altogether, stuff like mouthwash, toothpaste, deodorant were all on BOGOF, also got some Surf liquid, bin bags, soda crystals, dusters, microfibre cloths etc. Only thing i need now are toilet rolls which i know Asda have a 4pk Charmin for £1 so i'll get a few of those when i go tomorrow.

    So £16 so far, £184 left! :D

  • MrsMC please put me down for £200 for March
I posted this on the Feb thread before I realised this one was open, so thought I'd better put it here too!

  • Afternoon all
For the last 2 months i've followed the challenge and came under buget last month (alittle), so this month i've withdrawn my buget of £130 so i can only shop with cash and hopfully at the end of the month any money over will go straight into the savings. I have to do the bulk of my shop tomorrow or saturday and will spend no more than £100 and the remaining £30 will break down to £10 for the remaining 3 weeks, well thats the plan any way!!!!
    So here we go..............

  • Afternoon, everyone! Today's the first day of my March budget and is a four week month this time. MrsM, please put me down for £200 this month. I'm still going to stick to a budget of roughly £50 p/w at the moment as the cupboards were sadly very bare during Feb.

I did my first shop today and spent £18.19 in Tesco. Then another £88.30 in Asda meaning more than half my monthly budget is gone in one day:eek:! Fingers crossed I've got enough tea bags, coffee, pasta, washing detergent, toilet rolls, flour, tins and toiletries to see right through the month. The freezer's quite well stocked with the extra portions of lasagne, hm soup, chilli and shepherd's pie I made last month;).

Welcome to everyone joining the challenge for the first time, everyone here is great and has helped me not just cut back on my spending but on the amount of waste. Good Luck to everyone for March!
