Well, today I had to go to Lidl.

    I bought:-

    30 x 0.25l apple juice for pack lunches £4.99
    4 x pkts bread flour 48p each
4 pints full fat milk £1.30
4 pints semi skimmed milk £1.30
    1 bag plain flour 36p
    bag of clementines £1.39
2 pkts Gala apples £1.09 each (think you get 10 in a pack)
    2.5kg potatoes 99p
    Refuse sacks 79p.

Came to the grand total of £15.22.

Im hoping I wont need to go to the shops again until at least Thursday.

    Jackie xx

P.S Does anyone know what I can do to stop my page returning to the top every single time I thank someone. It never used to do that, so, I dont know why it does it now:confused: .

    Hello again everyone
I failed the February challenge so badly coming in £55 over budget. I let my home baking slip and plumped for shop bought sauces and convenience foods.

So I am setting my budget to £250 for March to get to grips with things again. In my Local Lidl they give away free food every morning as the shop opens I managed to get 1 litre of single cream, a pack if pate and 3 packs of mozerella cheese on Friday. I am going to have a go at HM pizza.
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

I've got 3 rats and spend slightly under a tenner a month on food, bedding and a couple of treat sticks.

ETA to be fair the hamster shares the bedding, so its probably nearer £7 a month...
Near £7 a month  my word I spend not much more than that each week for myself :rotfl: . I don't have to worry about bedding all that much thank goodness as I have lots hehe. For treats I've been giving them dog treats as my parents let me have them for free and the rats like them. So far for food they've been getting oats, rice, pasta, veg peelings and bits of fruit aswell as a few dog/cat/ferret biscuits and sunflower seeds. I am going to buy some rat nuggets from pets at home to give to them at every meal to suplement what I give them to. Does this sound okay to you or should I be getting more only rat kind of food for them?
I've made them a few hammocks from an old top I used to wear for PE at secondary school which they like and I collect ALL toilet/kitchen rolls I can for them for toys and chew toys (they do have a chew stick to make sure their teeth stay short mind). I am very creative when it comes to saving money (will even be making them a bigger cage that will easily fit 6 soon and then after a while one that could easily fit 9 rats lol and only for 2 rats. The first one will cost me about £30 and the second about £20 as I will be destroying an old wardrobe to do it). I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can for them so if you think I can improve with anything please help me out as it would be apresiated.

    Ok,

I have to make a confession. Up untill I started reading the posts here I thought that Lidl was a toyshop. :rotfl: Where I got the idea I don't know. I guess it was their logo that gave me that impression. I have one quite near here so next weekend will go and have a look. Shopping today total £13.81 which hopefully will be enough for this week as did my big shop only couple of weeks ago.

Hello All! I have joined the Grocery Challenge for the first time, and have already put myself down for £160. As it is my first time, this figure is a guess, and I am keeping all receipts - I'll collate all and post later. I have noticed a huge difference already though - usually, if I want something, I get it (within reason, of course! Haven't quite worked out how to buy Antonio Banderas....) BUT now, I am thinking twice, and more often than not, am not buying....have also gone through cupboards and freezer, and realised how much I had already - have all the ingredients for quiches, soups, bread, pasties, lasagne etc...and to think I looked in there a few weeks ago, and thought "oh - I have nothing in!!" - need to get creative in the kitchen.....keep hearing about these homemade hobnobs..must get the recipe!!

Hi everyone - made an awful mess with Feb grocery challenge, I stopped counting really soon and also was really bad with the work vending machine so I'm sure I failed the challenge, prob spent about £200. This month I'll try for a target of £150 and not try to solve all my bad habits, all at once.

Does anyone know what Lidl are like with refunds? I bought some tomatoes and when I got them home the top layer were fine but the bottom layer were mouldy. I chucked them out - who wants mouldy tomatoes hanging around - but will they give me a refund without the actual tomatoes to show them?

Hi, this is my first challenge. I usually spend just over £100 when I'm being 'good'....so..I'm gonna go for £95. How much do other people spend when buying for one?

Wow! That's impressive! I spend horrible amounts, probably a minimum of £150 because I can't stay away from the work vending machine

    Hiya Lovelies,

MIkeD I was wondering is you'd mind telling us your formula for working out your budget again Mike, I remember thinking it was fab - but that's all I remember about it!

    Thanks honey,

    Love Jacks xxx :D
Hi Jacks. Not sure what formula that was, I assume it was to the one where you got paid some time during the monthe or like me, had two incomes paid at different times of the month or four weekly. If so, here goes.

    1. Determine you weekly budget. Only you know what this is.

    2. Divide your weekly budget by 7. This is your daily budget.

    3. Multiply your daily budget by the number of days in your month. This will give you your budget for the month in question. If you are not using calendar months you will have to count up the days using a diary or a calendar.

    4. Example: Weekly Budget = £56. Days in month = 30.

    Monthly Budget: £56/7 = £8 x 30 = £240 per month

How you decide what your weekly budget is, is up to you, but I feel sure that will not cause an intelligent, down-to-earth, gorgeous person like you any problems :D.
