Well I'm finished for the month now - £1.32 over, so what we have in will have to do until pay day.
I'm going for £300 again next month though which should be achievable now that I've told everyone that when in town we don't stop for coffee/snacks etc.0 -
Don't know what went wrong with the cheese & ham muffins:o ---bit 'gooey' in the middle even after blasting'em in the MV this morning but at least Pup likes them:D

Just remembered....someone was asking about cooking mash to be heated later.....
I was thinking that:-
a/ you do it for shepherd's pie
b/ you do it for bubble & squeak
c/ be really flash, use a big nozzle piping bag & make potato 'florets' to warm thru on a baking sheet
HTH.....
AND, in the process of making the hobnobs, I was going to use bicarb from the larger box, like you get with borax. Then couldn't find 'cooking' or 'baking' mentioned on it so one of the offspring kindly popped to the shop for the supercook one....what would you have done?Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

I've got plenty of meals and bought a reduced portion on mince and was so chuffed when I manged to get meatballs x2 , bolagnaise x2 and beefburgers x4, 8 meals for less than £2:j. Should only have to do top-ups of milk and fruit and veg.

my only inspiration from delia's first cheat's programme was to freeze HM mash in flat 'disc' shapes so you can overlap them to top any dish and chuck it straight in the oven; I suppose you could also make the right size 'disc' to top your usual shepherds pie dish? open freeze on a tray and then store in freezer bags.
(of course delia used aunty bessie's which is probably going to earn her enough to buy another football team!).
I bought bicarb in a large box from my chemist and it says not to use for cooking so there are different 'grades' for want of a better word.
have fun with the bm!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

£122.13 spent now, just had to pay milk money, £4.78 is a big chunk every week to come from a much tighter budget.....still that's 3 weeks and 2 days gone, so only 1 week and 5 days to go...hanging in there!!! It's been a bit of a shock to the system, especially after I noticed it was a 5 week month, that I can actually get this far has suprised me, I was dreading it but it's not been too bad. Been working a lot from what we have in, shocking part is we still have quite a lot in. I have come up with something else which helps, I used to have a wander round the local shops when I'd dropped DS2 at school, now instead of walking the dogs when I get back I take them with me, stops the morning browse/spend as youngest dog chews through his lead if left outside a shop. One day I might be more organised...........

Just popped in to add £8 to my total for my organic veggie box.
Bacon, egg, chips and beans for tea tonight, we're all rushing out to various things so that'll be nice and easy.

That takes me back! My Mum used to do this, and when I was at catering college we were told they were called Duchesse Potatoes!! I remember they had a slight crusty outside to them, but they were still edible :rotfl: .
As we're going to the in-laws this weekend I thought I'd make some of these scrummy nests for the children!. I only need to get mini eggs rice krispies and rumour has it my local Co-Op is doing a BOGOF on krisipies atm.

Hi guys, sorry I'm never going to manage to catch up on this thread now, been away for a week and it's moving way too fast for me
Anyhow since I was away for work all meals were covered. I'd left DH a couple of days worth of shepherds pie and I suspect he ate weetabix apart from thisso it has been a cheap week really and I have no spend to add. I will need to pick up some fruit and veg in the next day or two though plus some goodies towards a family party on Sunday though I'm planning to make some of these...still hoping to come in under budget.
Anyhow I'm still on £75.80 for now. Hope you guys are all doing well!0
