Oh, please I need some help with my bread.

My HM wholemeal bread doesn't seem to rise well. Last night, I have done half/half white and wholemeal. But it is still a very dense bread. It is eatible, just not very nice.

Any ideas, where I am going wrong?

I find that I only need to substitute about 20% (100g if using 500g) of the white flour with wholemeal to make a good, tasty and not too heavy wholemeal loaf. Also if you are doing it by hand knead it for a little bit longer. If you're doing it for kids start off by swapping just a couple of spoonfulls.

  • Here goes my 1st grocery challenge. £350 for March.
  • P.S. My budget is for me, wife, 4 week old & Standard Schnauzer dog (although we stocked up on food for her before we moved - 2 big 15kg bags, both with 25% free - so an extra half bag free!! - currently half a bag left now!)

If you usually spend £120 - how about aiming for say £105 this month? Depends how fine to the bone its cut down already and how 'old style' you are! If in doubt cut down to £110 this month, then £10 or £5 every month until you're happier with it - though don't go short long term!?

Sorry meant weeks not month! :rotfl:

Hi AC. doing a weekly meal plan is a good way of cutting your food bill down and not waisting stuff. all ways make a list for your shopping and stick to it, also try going down a brand i.e, if you buy mr t's finest t-bags buy the normal was instead, i hope that makes sense. you will find loads of help and tips on the OS board. good luck
