I read this thread every day and I don't post on it much, but I just wanted to say that I'm glad things are going well for you, Sarah and I think you'll be an asset to the CAB. You're an inspiration to people in debt because you've worked really hard to get out of it and not let it control your life. :A

I know you cant go into exact detail about the CAB training but I was wondering how it works. It is something I have an interest in and would like to find out more about. I know you said it is on a voluntary basis but do they offer you the chance to be a paid advisor one day? How long is the training and do you have to specialise or learn about everything?

Hope you dont mind me asking xx
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

    I'm baaaaaaaaaaack :D

Really really enjoyed it. Obviously I can't go into massive detail because of confidentiality and all that... but I'm really excited about it now.. can't wait to start properly :D

In other news the cashback request from dialaphone has been recieved so apparently we'll have a £20 cheque headed our way within 7 days :D

Also the It pays to watch guys are coming to film us again on the 28th about where we are now and the CAB thing. They called today while I was at the training. :) How exciting! Not sure anyone will recognise me though as I've had new glasses and a hair cut since the last time! :rotfl:

Hope everyone's well... I did my measurements today and have apparently lost approx 1/2 inch off my waist, belly and hips.... not sure how as I've done hardly any exercise this week BUT have had aunt flo visit so I'm guessing it's to do with that! lol! :rotfl:
Brills Sar, well done old girl. Keep it up.

    Here's a link :)
    http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/index/join-us/why_volunteer_for_us.htm

Basically I filled in a form on the website and the manager of my local CAB got in contact. They called me for an interview where she explained about what they do and what training would be involved before asking me some questions.

The training is very thorough. Approx 6-9 months with a min of 6 hours a week. It includes a 5 day course in birmingham (well it does for me anyway) at some point in the future and at the end you get a certificate which is recognised as a qualification of sorts. That gives you an idea of the workload... apparently it involves home study as well as in bureaux training. Until you get your certificate you're not let loose on the public (for obvious reasons) but once you've got that certificate you're a full adviser and can specialise. I told the manager that I was interested in debt and money advising and she's been encouraging me to read material based on that as that'll be my specialist area although I'll be trained on everything.

Employment wise apparently the percentage of volunteers who go on to be employed by the CAB is very high. Specialist Debt advisers can earn anything from about 18k+...
    for example..

    I hope that helps. :)
