I'm a bit like Rodney Trotter - got my fingers in many pies lol!
I've got a degree in computers and have built a number of pc's for people. I dont do it so much now as I found I built someone a pc for next to nothing and then they wanted my 24 hour support for the rest of its life!
I'm into hydroponic gardening, another gadgety hobby!
I grind my own wheat to make bread, I make most of my meals from scratch. I am a soapmaker and I have a friend from Africa and we bring fair trade butters into the country, with all the money going directly back to the villagers. I've been invited over to see the butters being made!
And I appeared on Martin's show tonight.0 -

To help things along a bit I'm going to change the title of this thread to:-

While obviously you need to mention your job here (or the thread won't work) if you'd like to introduce yourselves more formally the best place is our "getting to know you" sticky at the top of the Old Style forun listing.

I'm a teacher and I've been doing a job-share for the past 7 years since the birth of my DD2. My DH is also a teacher and we both worked full-time after DD1 was born but once DD2 was born I knew that one of us needed to spend more time at home. Fortunately by then I was on decent money and I was lucky to be in the position to reduce my days at work.
One week I work 2 days and the next week I work 3 days. I do most of my OSing on the days that I don't work on as I have more time and energy. I always do a weekly meal plan and plan easy or hm meals from the freezer. I also have more time to shop around and spend much less on my monthly grocery bill and now that both girls are at school I do a bit of voluntary work with my church. The plan was for me to return to my job full-time but perhaps that won't happen as DH and the kids seem to like the arrangement and all of the hm meals.
Even if I do go back to work full-time I will continue with my OS ways, I will just need to be even more organised than I am now and plan ahead even more. :rotfl:0 -

I work as a PA to a Director of a "financial institution" in the City (London). I'm usually in the office just after 8am and am lucky to leave by 6.30pm, which means I leave the house just after 7am and am lucky to be back by 7.30pm. Often, my evenings are later...
This is what impacts on my OS lifestyle - I'm lucky because my job is relatively well paid, but I am often very tired (and I suffer from insomnia, hence my posts at this time of the morning!) so am quite often tempted to grab an expensive takeaway or pop into M&S for a "ready meal"!!!
I am very lucky because I hate to cook, but Mr P is a qualified chef, so we try to plan ahead and keep meals in the freezer. We do a weekly meal plan - it does get changed quite often, but at least it gives us a basic plan to work with. Even if the weekly plan goes to pot, I try to "know" (i.e. keep in mind) what we are planning to eat 24hrs in advance - this is by no means foolproof...we are human, and from time to time, we get to the end of the day and decide to go to the chip shop or just have beans on toast, rather than cook, but I do find that having an idea in my head helps to keep me on the straight and narrow!
All things said, I am far from perfect, but since finding this board, I am a lot more organised than I used to be...and I am the only person in my office to take my lunch in with me - the rest of them pop out to Pret a Manger, Eat, Crussh or Paul (all of which are very close to my office and incredibly overpriced!!), so thanks to all of you who post for helping to keep me slightly more on plan than I would otherwise be...!

I'm fairly new to OS, well, kinda, I've been lurking since I joined 18months ago, but always thought I didn't have the time for all the stuff in the OS threads. I'm an Optician, work full time (5 days a week) and on my days off I used to have a lie-in and a lazy day. I would go to tescos and wander round aimlessly, buying lots of stuff, spending about £40 then getting home and realising I only had enough for one meal, and lots of junk.
I have recently decided its about time i learned to cook, so I have been browsing OS much more. The key for me is planning.
The day before my day off I browse OS & the net for new recipes and plan what i'm gonna eat for the next few days, then write a list of what I need.
my plans still go to pot sometimes, the main problem for me is if I have a stressful day at work, and can't even be bothered re-heating my pre-planned frozen stuff. I just come home and want to eat junk and drink wineWiggly:heartpulsFB0 -
I work in a Uni Library from 9 ~ 3 term time only as I have 2 Tadpoles that are 11 and 12. It fits in around the Tadpoles PERFECTLY which is brill otherwise I couldn't and wouldn't work. There's nothing more O/S than borrowing books for free
Like alot of the others on here I am COMPLETELY O/S , I batch bake, cook from scratch, do Flylady, cycle to work et.c It can be done, just need to be organised and get up early ( up at 5 everyday)

I'm a manager in an investment bank in the City - long long hours, it's not unusual for me to be at my desk at 6am and do 12-14 hours. I do what I can with OS, but I tend to have to fit it round my lifestyle. If I want to do laundry and make bread before work, I have to get up before 4am! I try to batch cook at the weekends; yesterday was great because I took a tub of bolognese sauce out of the freezer before work and just did some quickcook spaghetti when I got in. It's at times like that that I really see the value; the old me would've automatically reached for the takeaway menu. I've not yet got into a consistent routine; everything seems to 'bunch up' and need to be done at the weekend because during the week I come home, throw some food down my throat, and go to bed. It's a bit weird when the height of luxury is getting up at 7am on my days off and hanging the washing out in the garden!0

:silenced:  Mum's the word about what type of job/employer I have......I'll tell you all why when I'm retired:D . Lets just say its boring/badly paid/etc/etc - but, as I am near to retirement I'll just hang on in there and wait for that.
Its a full-time job and, at the beginning of the year, I had 4 part-time jobs as well (i think the phrase "devil for punishment" is coming to mind). I'm simplifying now and only have one of those part-time jobs left on top of the full-timer now. I'm just finishing up the work I contracted to do in the "part-timer" (because I dont want to let them down) - but that will be gone soon and just the "full-timer" left.
Even with that - compromises will still have to be made on O.S. Style. In my case its the housework that gets compromised on (all the time). Food - I wont eat readymeals if I can help it (cant recall the last one I had) and, if desperate for time, I occasionally have had to make do with porridge (homemade)/fruit/bread/cheese/etc - rather than a "proper" meal. In particularly busy weeks I have to make do with buying a loaf of shop bread - if too pushed for time to be able to make my own at that point - its not half as good as mine though:D
