Just about to post a huge notice "YOU ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE THE GBC IF YOU DON'T STOP EATING NOW" on my larder cupboard door, and I'm ashamed to say this is directed at me.0

waaah! I had a bad day on Sat. Went to Sainsbury's (I know! I know!!) cos we were in town and someone had to go and couldnt wait  So, I decide to buy some detergent that we needed urgently, 5.99, not too bad thinks I.
Then someone (his name is mud at the mo) says he cant be a**ed to cook so can we get something from the rotisserie. 5 mins and £16 later we get home to some yummy scotch egss, 2 x 2l bottles of pop which was 30p more expensive than in Tesco's, air freshner for *his* car, mango crush can of pop and the most yucky (& expensive) bbq chicken
Im making him eat it today as I couldnt stomach it at all but wouldnt throw it out lol
So net effect is Im £7.21 over budget grrr. Most annoying seeing as there was a Morrisons yards away where I could have got this lot much cheaper!!!
Hopefully, this week's shop should be minimal as Im even struggling to reach my normal £50 spend *yipee*"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

:j Did weekly shop (Tesco) and spent £50.83!!! This is very good (4 me) Topping up bread & milk during week=£3.
Remaining budget for August £245.32
At least I'm getting there - previously would have easily spent £180 by now! As it is, spent £104.68.
Keep it up everyone!
Have also decided to join the PIN challenge - although it will have to be virtual PIN money as v. expensive month this month!!20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

Wow, I've outdone myself this week. I did almost a fortnights shop today (might need a few oddsies before the fortnight is out) and it's just cost me £51 BV and £48 AV.
I might even be able to make it till the end of the month at this rateOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
Can I join in this month please? What with this month, hopefully, being our dont spend anything and get out of the missed payments/charged cycle, I want to make full use of what is in the cupboards and freezer. I am going home tonight to work out what we already have, what I can mlake with it and what else I need. I wont be starting te chalange until 15th, which is when I am paid, annoyingly enough! I am hoping to stick to a budget of maximum £100, but idea, llly £50 for the 2 of us - we have loads of food in the freezer and just need tio catalogue it!Kirsty, Taunton, xxx0

Good idea - i should really be noting exactly what is in the freeezer rather than just rummaging around in it.
As we leave for a short break tomorrow it will just have to wait."This site is addictive!"

Afternoon
I have reduced monthly budget very slightly to £300 (was £320), this includes all petrol costs too. Confusing but its how i do it..lol. There is only OH, DS & me but the last few months I have been moving excess grocery/petrol dosh to a saving pot-towards my new conservatory (hopefully) in the new year and now have £600On average we are only spending about £35 a week on groceries which is over half less to what we were spending a few months ago
Have my first shop coming sunday and have found a £10 voucher off a £50 spend at Asda, but the food I needed only totalled £34.00, so we treated ourselves to 6 bottles of Blossom Hill (20% off and if you buy 6 theres another 10% off-bottle cost £2.74 each  well cheap). I dont actually drink due to medication im on, but it will look nice in my wine rack and OH has the odd bottle very occasionally  Bought trolley to £52.73 with delivery. There is enough grub etc for 2 weeks..hopefully and will need some small items in between. I also have quite abit in the freezer-so Im guessing this month will be a good one
Good Luck everyone.
Penny-Pincher!!
xxxTo repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0 -
August didn't start out too well as we celebrated me being on a mini holiday from work by having an Indian takeaway! And we also stocked up on toiletries (but at the best prices, on offer, things we really needed, honest guv!) So last week (Week one of August) we were £9 over budget (spent £27 of a budget of £18 for the week, that week's allocation of our £85 budget for August.)
But Mr Thift and I are so into saving on our groceries that it's almost becoming a hobby! Instead of wandering round the town centre shops on Saturday for no real reason, like we usually do, which of course tempts us to spend money on things we don't need, we went on a groceries mission!
By going to the local veg shop, Makro, Farmfoods and Asda and shopping around for different things in different places we stocked up on things that should last us most of the rest of the month (we should only need to get milk, bread, some fruit and some meat nearer the end of the month) for the grand sum of £42.53! So we are over budget still - have spent £69.53 of an allocation of £36, so are over by £33.53, but if we can stick to the plan for the rest of the month, we should only need to spend roughly £86 of our £85 budget, YAY!!0 -
Oh, and Squeaky, before you say anything, I know it's not supposed to be as painful as I might be making our groceries challenge sound (I know £85 for 5 weeks for 2 adults and a c0ckatiel for all food and drink, except beer that's just for Mr Thrift, and all household goods, and all toiletries isn't much) but it's the way we have to do it at the moment as our budget has had to be severely reduced.
But we're actually starting to enjoy the challenge of it, hehe!(Can anyone tell me a cheap place to buy a life?!
