Marinated griddled tuna - this is a rosemary conley recipe but tastes lovely!

    For the marinade:
    4tbsp light soy sauce
zest and juice of 2 limes
    smallred chilli, finely chopped
1inch pece of fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
    salt and pepper

Place the tuna steaks in a shallow dish and season with freshly ground blaack pepper.
Combine marinade ingredients in a bowl and pour over the tuna.
    Marinate for 30 mins.
Cook tuna for 2-3 mins each side on a pre-heated griddle pan.
Serve hot with boiled rice or noodles and vegetables of your choice.

I do much the same as buyitall - just marinate it in some olive oil, lime juice, chilli, garlic and ginger. Leave it for about half an hour and then griddle/fry till it's done the way you like it. Or we like it marinated in coconut milk, with the chilli etc.

Tbh, it's so dear normally that we always have it like that as we don't have it often enough to get fed up of it lol! OH loves it and if I came home with a load of 10p steaks he'd be my best friend forever :)

They are available nationwide. The use by date on the boxes I have are 2009.
To get them all in the freezer I've had to take them out of the boxes and jiggle them about, (if you get my drift).
I bought them initially thinking if we didn't like them, it would be cheap food for the cat for a while. The cat hasn't had a look in. OH and DS see to that.
As you say, Gingernutmeg, they are normally too dear to buy too often, but at 10p a real bargain!

    Hi smiley,

I wouldn't waste [STRIKE]expensive[/STRIKE]fresh tuna on a pasta bake, although you could chop it up and add if you really want to.

There's an earlier thread on cooking fresh tuna that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

  • SmileyS, Are these tuna steaks? If so I wouldn't do tuna pasta.

Just pan fry it for about a minute on each side. You want it to be medium rare in the middle so all you are doing is sealing the meat.

    Make a vinegarette:

    finely diced Tomato
    Juice of half a lemon
    finely sliced mushrooms
    75ml Olive Oil
    1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    salt and papper.

Mix all together and drizzle over the top of the steaks. Serve with potatoes and salad. Yum
