I've just discovered a new way of poaching eggs, and I'm so impressed I wanted to share it.

Using a microwavable pot or cup - (I use one of those little plastic pots that came with an individual chocolate pudding in it) - add one desertspoon of water and the egg and microwave on full power for about 45 sec - depending on the size of the eggs and the wattage it might need a few sec more or less - (remember the eggs cook a little more too when you've stopped). Result - a perfect poached egg, no mess and sooo quick.:D
  • what a great idea!!!! Thanks for that

    Hiya :)

We have an older thread on finding the perfect poached egg and so I've merged your post into it. Since posts are listed in date order you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up :)

No - don't !!!!!! the egg yolk - it doesn't explode I promise. It's only eggs in their shells that explode in a microwave.
  • Move to an area with a decent quality soft water supply.

Add a little vinegar to the pan.

Add plenty of boiling water to the pan.

Add up to four eggs at a time.

Boil for two minutes for lovely runny yolk.

Place onto hot buttered toast and eat.
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.

I don't own a poacher but have used my electric steamer with a ramkin or two in the bottom tier and a little grease proof paper over the top. To stop the steam dripping on them.

I even told my mum how to do this last week in her steamer that goes on the hob as my dad said he wanted poached eggs for lunch  . And she can't find the little cup things that go in the poaching saucepan.

She used a oven proof bowl so it was two eggs in one bowl. But it worked. I will give her a couple of ramkins as I have 6 not sure why I need so many. LOL!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my favs is Welsh Rarebit and sauteed potatoes. Poached my eggs in a pan with boiling water and a touch of vinegar and work out fine each time.

Cheese on toast basically with a poached egg on top
