  • the techno is great, it was just the legrest that i didn't like.

as for giant 2 year olds i think it's just us on this thread, they're pretty rare :D the top of the height chart is the 99.6th centile i think, which (unless i am misunderstanding centiles) means that 1 in every 250 children will have a height that's over that top line?

  • My ds is built like a mini rugby player. He didn't walk until 15 months and was quite happy in a mothercare stroller. By 18 months it was a bit of a squeeze. After 21 months he hated being pushed so he's been walking everywhere ever since. He's 33 months now and in 5-6 year old clothes :oS x
  • The only stroller that goes above the recommended manufacturers weigh guides that all the others makes say (approx 15 kgs) is the Maclaren Techno XT , this one goes up to 60lbs / 27 kgs .

I've had one of these for about three years and I would definately recommend them. I've actually had two of them!!!! We've not used ours since last summer hols as son is now 5 and therefore does not need it. The other day he made me get it out so he could push his cuddly Frog (called Dave) to the park in it!!!! On the way back, he said his legs were really tired and jumped in!!!! I was very embarasssed pushing him home in it (would have been more embarassed pushing Dave the Frog!!!). He still fitted in it fine and didn't look squashed up! You can get them brand new on Ebay for quite reasonable prices.
  • yikes shelley crow, mine has only just gone into age 4-5.

when i was upset with the legrest on the techno there was a mothercare stroller that was similar to a maclaren that cost under a hundred but i'm not sure what weight it would have carried comfortably

  • a cuddly frog called dave is so sweet :D

sorry madsmum for going off topic!

i think roo was 19 months old when i was trying out new prams, when the techno didn't suit his legs. the legrest wasn't staying in one place, it was sort of sliding back under the weight of his chubby legs.

the harness seemed to start above his ears too, there was no option to have it starting nearer to his shoulders, the only solution seemed to be to use a buggy liner with a choice of holes, and thread it through a lower down hole on the liner. that meant the liner slipping about so i sewed shoelaces into it to tie it into place on the pram. it had 2 ties already (buggy snuggle style) but i had to tie it on in 4 more places (to the holes where each harness strap came out).

if the seat had been cotton rather than a sweaty slippy sort of material then perhaps i wouldn't have needed a buggy liner, and perhaps the liner wouldn't have slipped down so much and needed tying on. i am pretty sure i've seen people with technos which don't have a slippy seat, and perhaps the proper maclaren cosy toes/liner stays on without slipping and lets you choose harness height.

Yes, you're right. I stopped getting my oldest weighed and measured early on because he was dotting about well above the line and it was making me stress. My youngest is on the top line. I couldn't care less now as we know if our kids are doing okay!

The maclaren techno was the only other one that was in the running when we were looking but it was dearer than the M&P one at the time and I always had trouble with the brakes on our other Maclaren.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

I am probably going to get shot down in flames here but I think that by 3yrs old they really don't need to be being wheeled anywhere.. my grandaughter is just 3 now and walks everywhere and has down for over a year... at first she moaned and wanted to be picked up but she soon got the hang of it and I am sure its why she is so full of energy and runs everywhere.. she never gets tired when walking and is strong and sturdy but slim..so come on Mums make 'em walk you know its good for them... now I guess the shooting will start...:rotfl: of course its only my opinion...

  • Tanith, I agree, both my children were rid of their buggy mostly by 25-26 months and entirely by 30 months. Does children no harm whatsoever to walk places.
    Loving the dtd thread. x
  • but the OP's child is under 2!

the farm is six miles away from my house, and it's a 4 mile walk to the canal and then back to the farm. the bus doesn't cover more than about 4 miles out of the six.

on an average day at alton towers we will walk more than ten miles.

i wouldn't need a pram for journeys of less than a couple of miles, but a couple of days a week i do need a pram and i'm glad i've got one!

  • I can understand that most 3 year olds shouldn't need a buggy, but please remember those of us who have 3 year olds with health problems who need buggy's!!!!

It is very frustrating for myself as a parent with a 3 year old with a severe heart condition, to be looked down upon as these items are greatly needed, as on the outside he looks completely healthy but can't do things that healthy children can!!!!!!!!!!!

The fact also that we cannot get buggy's that will hold children over 15kg without having to pay a fortune adds to the frustration as we shouldn't have to label our children with special needs buggys that make them stand out in a crowd.
