Hi all
My ds who is nearly two is very large for his age and does not fit (with growing room) into most buggies. Could anyone suggest a good four wheeled one please?
Many thanks in advance

i went for mamas and papas when my boy was too large for everything else (before he turned two, so he needed a daytime sleep in a pram if we were out). freestyler is a large pram and very comfortable (but expensive, i got mine from ebay though) and the pliko is similar to maclaren in terms of being light and having an umbrella fold so it fits in your boot or the basket area on a bus.
maclaren prams have a higher backrest than most others, if mamas and papas are out of your budget. they're not as wide though, and my toddler is well built.
i went round shops and the pram area of toddler groups with a tape measure to find the tallest back-rests. i thought the mamas and papas pulse buggy would be okay (it was only £99 new) but when he sat in it he hated it, the seat was quite shallow and he has a large bottom lol!
i think most areas have NCT sales next week so that's worth looking at. there are always mamas and papas prams for sale at ours.'bad mothers club' member 13

forgot to say other mamas and papas prams might be okay too - i don't have a shop here so i've been limited to looking at freestyler, pliko and pulse because they were all i could find.
i love the pliko. the freestyler is okay in the summer but the hood skims the top of the seat and there was no way i could use the hood with my boy, i bought the pram when he was around 21 months old and have never had the hood up because his head was in the way. he is excessively tall though, his height is off the top of the chart.
the pliko doesn't have its hood so low down, i can use the hood on the pliko.'bad mothers club' member 13

Thanks Carmina.
It always makes me smile when I see your little one because it looks so like mine and they are both very tall...... (must have strong words with dh later!!)

im with most here, a mamas and papas or a peg perego pliko is excellent up to that age. raincover will still cover their feet. ive had 2 plikos and one a m and p 10 yrs ago and have a peg perego now, which i bought from ebay germany for half the money than here. they close up quite small and stand up if you need space in a cupboard for instance.0

I have a 10 year old Maclaren buggy-think it's called a Mistral which has to be the best £100 we spent.
We took in on holiday last year when ds was 5 for going out at night, and we'll be doing the same again this year when he's 6...and he ain't small!

My ds is 2 1/2 - 1m tall and weighs 19kg - so know all about buggies. The only one he fits in, and I can push without the wheels jamming, creaking, falling off etc is the Phil and Teds that we got as a double when dd was born. He's too big/heavy for all strollers

strollers usually say max of 15kg but roo is 20kg and is only 30 months old and is a metre tall. he's so heavy that he just ruins the suspension etc. on strollers, and the cheap ones are too hard to push lol!
i wonder what age most people can get rid of their pram? lol!'bad mothers club' member 13

The only stroller that goes above the recommended manufacturers weigh guides that all the others makes say (approx 15 kgs) is the Maclaren Techno XT , this one goes up to 60lbs / 27 kgs .Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

i had an XT to begin with but roo wasn't comfortable on the seat, he hated the leg rest. it sort of slides in and out instead of having a certain number of positions. he would probably be okay with one now that he's older and his legs are longer, but there was a stage when he just couldn't get comfortable, and his legs were too short to reach the footrest at the time. other than that the techno XT was similar to a pliko in many respects, but the pliko is wider if you have a wide child. my techno was slippery so it needed a buggy liner, whereas the pliko is padded. i wore my techno out, the steering and brakes were cream crackered.
i was going to post about the techno this morning but you beat me to itnot all tall children are wide or heavy, so a techno would probably suit most. the backrest is high enough and it's a lot cheaper than a pliko - about half the price i think?
