I wanna be mortgage free!

We have always said we would wait till next summer as OH has just started NQT year (today) and so until we know he has got a job next year we are going wait (sensible MSE heads).
I know how that feels as well, we'd like a bigger place but aside from waiting for OH to figure out what he's doing job wise, we also need to know if it's likely we'll leave the country soon or not.
Is your OH in a private school then? I don't go back till the 7th!Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Your mortgage and debt are almost the same as my mortgage (£48,622.46) shame I can't overpay more cos it would be easier to keep me going :j will have to see what we can do when the first teaching pay cheque comes in on the 27thMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

Is the pay scale the same for teachers in scotland as it is for us in England? We couldn't OP at all during my NQT year because of all the work we were getting done on the house. But we've got £120 being chucked at it each month starting sept.
What do you do aj? What does he teach?Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

I am a musician in the Royal Marines so I have a pretty good wage and great job security. OH is teaching music at secondary level think the wage is £20,000ish a year but he used to be in the same job as me and so he has a pension from that too which he has lived on for the last year. Don't know if that wage is the same as England or not.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

Yeah it's pretty similar!! You should be ok then providing that you don't have any massive outgoings. I have been on NQT wage for the last year and OH has been earning about 18K - he was finishing off his degree so was working part time. And if we hadn't been saving up to do the house and pay for the car we would have OP'd this year!
Either way it's nice just to feel in control of your finances knowing what your are going to do when you get the chance!Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

I have been clued up money wise for about ten years but reading posts on here over the last week has taught me quite a lot. I budget in the loosest term possible, but have already looked at other ways to save money day to day. Even if I don't overpay more than my monthly £100 my finances will still be in better shape for it. A big thanks to everyone whose posts I have read that have helped me towards this :beer:MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

Right, I have decided that one way or another when this shed is built I'm going to try and grow my own veg. Even if it's just salad bits, it all adds up! I know I can grow basil on my kitchen window sill so thats something at least...I will just need a bigger pot for it next time...we accidently ate our way through the other one and it couldn't keep up!
I might have to save up and do it in dribs and drabs (mainly due to OH's moaning)...but I think we'd defo eat more veg (and it saves money). Just a waiting game now.
Aw at this rate we could rename this board as the Veggy board! I love pottering with my veg! Even if my toms died a long slow painful death:mad:
Your bathroom sounds like its been a nightmare.
Love the bit about your other half sulking about his bike bits, typical bloke!
