switch to saxon you mean? Yah ive heard Endsleigh thrive on students. What do people think of the Natwest/HSBC etc student insurance services?

Endsleigh's primary targets are students, they have branches in most student unions, if I remember correctly.
Am now with HSBC insurance, who were quick and efficient over the phone and covered me from the moment I took out the policy. They are underwritten by Norwich Union so not sure if it would be cheaper to go direct. I've had enough and will stick this one out.

Endsleigh primarily deal in students as they were founded and are still partly owned by the NUS.
Endsleigh is NUS' preferred insurance provider for students. Endsleigh negotiates competitive insurance on behalf of 1.6 million students in the UK. NUS retains a stake in the company, and both the NUS President and Treasurer sit on the board, ensuring it remains fully accountable to the student movement.

Does anyone happen to know whether the basic cover for uni halls with Saxon Insurance (or HSBC), covers 'walk in theft'?

Saxon is working out at £19 for one years cover in Newcastle which is the cheapest I can get (no PC or laptop cover needed).

I would imagine that 'walk in theft' may be quite common and useful to be covered for?

Hope someone can through some light on this subject for me!

    Hi pc10,

I popped into the Endsleigh insurance office on my daughter's campus on friday. i was horrified to get a quote of £165 and that was just for her room contents, laptop, key cover etc. she has no other valuables there. they do however cover walk in theft. You will need to check with Saxon whether their policy does or not. I have since found a much cheaper quote from e and L see link http://www.eandl.co.uk/student-possessions-insurance.htm and their quote is much more reasonable so i think we will go with them. Also theirs is a monthly policy which means that we are not paying for months when the cover is not needed - i.e. July, August and most of September. the other insurers only offered 12 monthly contracts and the students have to pay the premium up front.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j
  • Where is the best place for insurance. I would prefer to pay monthly. I also want to cover my phone, but maybe seperately.

    any suggestions would be great

If you look a little further down the board, you will see student room insurance which is the most recent discussion. There's probably more a lot further down and out of site!
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Do anyone know of any insurance companies that specialise in mobile phone insurace? I tried CUSC or something but they wouldn't insure my phone (its a non uk model)
  • Ok,

If any of you are looking for student insurance, and you luckily haven't caved into Endsleigh's advertising ploy have a look at this.

Saxon insurance is another company that provides specialist student cover, at halls of residence and at other student accomodation.

The website: https://www.saxoninsurance.com will explain nearly everything.

Living on campus for me, the basic cover covered you up to £10000 (of stuff) including all the usual student things, such as walk in theft etc, and this was only £19, compared to Endsleigh that is a massive reduction, so have a quote from them first before you go with endsleigh.

Of course it may be cheaper to extend your parents home insurance, but always double check at the costs, and what it doesn't include.

I gave saxon insurance a ring (0871 230 5000 - that is the number you must dial, the number 'saynoto0870' gives is out of date) and they explained what was covered and what wasn't and all the details of the plan etc, so it is always worth just to double check.

For me my quote came to £35 for insurance up to £10000 including all the other things as well as items up to £500 that i take out of the room frequently. This is compared to the Endsleigh quote i got of £79, which still had less overall cover, and didnt cover legal fees etc  which would you choose?

They have a slightly different, more inclusive policy that covers you if you are a very sporty person, so make sure you look at everything.

I have checked everything over and it all seems fine, I am just lucky i didnt go with Endsleigh, and i did do a bit of research. Also i have heard a few bad reports with Endsleigh.

Hopefully if Martin has some time he could review this, and make sure it is ok, and that it seems ok to him. But Saxon is part of the FSA and is underwritten by Norwich Union, so personally i didn't have any worries.

So as a summary, Saxon is cheaper, and is more inclusive (than endsleigh), can anyone beat that? The moral is to shop arround (which i guess most of you do anyway) but post here any of your findings

Hope all of that helps, just thought i would share the info, to help you save your money!

    Cheers

    Ian

Please elaborate (do you have experience, or what are you basing this on?)

The £500 for cds, dvd and video games. What about it? I will be leaving all my cds at home, and taking my PC and mp3 player!
