    Hi guys,

Firstly many thanks for all your kind messages of support I am truly touched by them all and when the kids are in bed and I finally finish the cleaning and get on here for a read, well it's the only time of the day that I can have a really good cry and your support means a lot.

OH is still very poorly, not much change. Still a large amount of support needed by the vent and large amounts of oxygeon needed to keep him stable. His blood gasses are borderline but they are happy with this situation and have no plans to do anything with him until the end of the week. One good point is that his liver has settled and the blood results show that this is almost back to normal. He is still on the filter for his kidneys as his urine production has dried up, however they are purposely keeping him dry to prevent his lungs filling with fluid so I expect that this is not unexpected.

The surgeon who performed the operation had a chat today and has told me that there is a (not so worrying - at the moment) problem with his valve. When the op was done there was minimal leakage from the valve - which is completely normal - and usually expected to sort itself out. Two echos taken before last Thursday showed that this had not changed. However an echo taken over the weekend has shown that the leakage is now moderate. The echo shows that it is not affecting the function of the heart in any way and he says that many people out in the community have this problem and are not really aware of it and it. It is something that will need monitoring in the future with probably another op in a couple of years.

However to put things in perspective his problems could be a lot worse - where they would have to intervene with the valve and he is way to poorly to go through another operation.

The surgeon does think that if there are no more problems and that the lungs begin to heal he should recover well from this. So we all wait and continue to pray for a good outcome.

I hope you are all well.

    Smoky.

Great to hear from you smokybabe. Thank you for taking the time to post as I know these are worrying times for you. As gb said in a previous post, we're family-all of us. You and yours are never far from my thoughts and I am praying that your OH continues to improve. Sleep is great for healing, so while he is asleep and his muscles are relaxed he will be slowly healing.
(((hugs))) to you all and stay strong and positive-and don't forget to look after yourself and try to eat and try to get some rest/sleep too!!!

  • I know things are still very serious smokybabe, but at least the surgeon sounds quite hopeful. Thanks for coming on to keep us in touch with his progress.

How are you doing? Hope you're managing to get some rest, and also to eat. You really do need to try to look after yourself as well as everybody else.

Hugs to you all, and constantly in my prayers.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Smoky.

Certainly more hope than your last posting, though obviously he is nowhere near out of the woods yet. We'll keep the hugs and prayers going I'm sure. Let's hope that someone gets fed up with our nagging and you can give us a bit more improvement tomorrow.

Glad we can be of use.
    Look after yourelf.

Smoky...thanks for update, progress is bound to be slow but hopefully there will be something positive every day.

Hope that you are looking after yourself as you are not going to be able to help OH if you are ill yourself.

    Love
