There were so many people who didn't believe me that house prices would fall and this whole housing bubble was unsustainable. One by one they have all changed their minds.

It does matter what the papers say, they can only ramp up the property market so much before economic constraints bring it down.

To be fair The Mail has been to bad over the last couple of months. Its been the Express that has been blatantly misrepresenting figures to make the market look better than it is and then lobbying the BOE for interest rate cuts, all on their front pages. I believe that The Express management all have large buy to let portfolios.
yes. hope you didn't live through the late 80's nightmare like I did.re d.express: you are correct. but the mail comes close.agreed?
it should be obvious by now that I hate the mail with a vengeance.
a right little rascist outfit ( but is careful to go 'sub - textual' in it's commentary). maybe you're not old enough to recall its hysterical editorials against just about anyone who wasn't english/tory/home counties/mortgage- free/late middle aged.

    it hasn't changed.

and I still feel a little offended by posters that suggest that people who ignore articles re house prices viz. d.mail are snobbish!!!

House prices always fall and people never want to beleive they will.

And generally people on TV will only talk about price falls in retrospect when talking about the "current recovery".
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

Cashflow is everything, especially in a recession.

Anyone who quotes from the Dailymail should hang their head in shame...

perhaps if this quote came from a believable source then it would spark a better debate!

The Daily Express is just as bad if not worse. They've been trying to "generate" a crash with scary front page headlines for months.

    Woeful rags, both.

I think the opposite is true, they are usually optimistic about house prices.

Is this a wind-up? Recent Express front pages:

House Prices Still Soaring (in response to a report showing them falling)
Shock Rise in House Prices (no shock at all - annualised figures)
House Prices Hit New Record High (in response to a report showing them lower than 6 months ago)
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

oh no 0.2%!! hope all the str's have their deposits ready! lol

okay sarcasm off. if prices continue to fall at that level, ie maybe 2% a year. inflation will carry the rest of the fall (or crash as some call it). Would this then be considered a 'soft landing'?? Most people would still be able to move their mortgage deals around because hardly any/no negative equity. Real prices for FTB etc would be lower in a couple years.... but then again, it couldnt qualify for the whole 'crash' moniker then??

Some will say this is just the start and it will get worse, yet again though, they also report that it is the 5th consecutive house price drop (over the cold winter period as well), so 0.2% is not much concern yet being the 5th month of drops imho ;)
