One of the things that amazes me about the Daily Mail is their attempt to split all foodstuffs into one of 2 groups, those that cause or cure cancer.
It is true what you say. What I like about The Economist is that they are very open about their biases - free trade, free markets, free people.
the truly depressing aspect of this example of gutter press (apart from the health scare stuff) is the sheer 'nimbyism' that infects nearly all articles.
where house prices are concerned most of the d.mail's content is directly aimed at 'pleasing' that section of the readership that climbed on the housing bandwagon 7+ yrs ago, with features that regularly remind them of how 'property rich' they have become.this is pandering to worst instincts.
in true mail style, it ignores the many people who have been frozen out of the market.it followed a similar line during the boom of the late 80's.
it keeps an overtly political agenda which hasn't changed materially for over a century and was slated, perhaps snobbishly, as 'a paper published by office boys for office boys' within a couple of years of launch.
for much of the time it looks for opportunities to destabilise the present govment (btw, I don't support labour) and will use the market slowdown as an excuse to condemn labour as fiscally incompetent.
and all the time forgetting to mention that the free market - which this rabid little rag enthusiastically supports - has its serious downsides.
mostly, it's more interesting for what it doesn't publish...
for anyone who is genuinely interested in what's really going on in the domestic/global economy could do worse than read:
the economist (as mentioned)
FT
the times (sometimes).
or you could simply go on living on planet mail.
rant over.
sorry if this is getting in the way of the fashion posts.........miladdo0 -

I actually posted the first link I had to hand... I figured anybody with half a brain would just want to go do their research, not sit and whine that it was from the DM ... blah blah.
How blinkered.0 -
And on the subject of colours/fashion .... I've never had a clue. And it doesn't bother me. I look like a tramp's day out even when I am trying - because I own 2 pairs of jeans, 3 identical hoodies and a handful of identical tops ... and that's my lot.0

There were so many people who didn't believe me that house prices would fall and this whole housing bubble was unsustainable. One by one they have all changed their minds.
It does matter what the papers say, they can only ramp up the property market so much before economic constraints bring it down.
To be fair The Mail has been to bad over the last couple of months. Its been the Express that has been blatantly misrepresenting figures to make the market look better than it is and then lobbying the BOE for interest rate cuts, all on their front pages. I believe that The Express management all have large buy to let portfolios.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

I've no idea about newspapers. Or the differences between them.
I think caring is a London thing.0 -

Bought hubby bright, candy pink cashmere from Uniglo at Xmas.
He has same physique as J.Depp (same age '42?).....only a real man can wear pink.;)
The Mail on Sunday has the best horoscopes and Liz Jones' diary....she just sold her pile in Islington and bought farm in Dartmoor. It's not going to plan either:D0 -

Sounds just like me. I have several pairs of identical jeans and Weird Fish tops and that's about it, unless it's hot.
My daughter and her classmates had to draw pictures of their parents and make a poster. It didn't have any names, just pictures, and we had to guess at the parents evening. Her picture didn't look anything like me, but she got the clothes right, so even the teachers had no problem guessing one name correctly.0 -

And when, exactly, did you come out with this theory of yours?Founder member MSE Jet Airways Mile High Club
