House prices dropping is a good thing for most, unless of course you have recently bought a new build flat (which is probably why pinkshoes is a little nervous with this type of news)

Before you ask, I am a part of an intellectual elite.

In the absence of any evidence to support this assertion, I'll have to take your word for this.

As I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the purpose of the news media is to report the news, not make it up. If a newspaper cites the same sources as others that some consider more reputable, then there can be no doubting either their validity or credibility, unless of course you believe that they are simply inventing the piece.

Have you not noticed how staff writers rotate from paper to paper? or is it the fact that it is a tabloid that bothers you?

To dismiss a factual, properly investigated piece that has been reported in parallel by other weighty organs is a bit of snobbish nonsense, imho of course.

Pinkshoes & I don't agree on much (apart from the colour of our favourite shoes), but on this I fully agree - the Daily Mail is not, generally, a reliable source.

I'm confused... I presumed you were male... but pink shoes on a man can work  (as in shoes that are pink, not me on a man!). Or perhaps you're female?!?! It's often difficult to tell with some people's username...

Nope! Not nervous whatsoever, and for the sake of my lovely neighbours, I hope they can afford to buy one day... Can't put a price on owning your own home...

We borrowed sensibly, put down a good deposit, bought a lovely apartment in a very good area, and since buying, have both had really hefty pay rises and promotions, so are paying the mortgage off at a nice rate... SO much cheaper than renting!

My only fear is Britain having a recession and many many people loosing their jobs, which could be a disaster for this country.

Everybody knows that demand far exceeds supply and prices can only go up.

There are no empty spaces where I live and there is currently a long waiting list for the people who want to move in.

I find that the reporting in the Daily Mail is unreliable and hysterical and so choose not to read it regularly (although I try to read every newspaper at least once a year).

Generally I find that the best reporting is in The Economist. The FT second. The Times and Torygraph are ok.

The other papers are only fit for the bottom of the proverbial bird cage IMO.

You are right about me being a snob if that was aimed at me.

It was a bit of a joke, ok it was a pretty awful one, but it was an attempt. It's safe to say pink & Mr Montag don't mix well. Actually I've never tried, maybe I should, normally I stick to blue & dark autumnal colours.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

I work in a male dominated environment, and have come to the conclusion that pink shirts on men either look fabulous, or exceedingly er... camp/wet-lettuce-like/seriously WRONG/gay! There's no inbetweens... (and sadly the majority of men come under the latter category, but thankfully most have the common sense to realise this)

Blue and dark autumnal colours work well, but don't mix your base colours...

Err without wanting to go too Trinny & Suzanna on everyone here - what are base colours?

  • I'm lucky(?) enough to see nearly all the nationals on a daily basis and have been for the past 25 years.
ALL newspapers are guilty of fact distortion, mis-reporting, etc.
but the mail stands head and shoulders above all for misleading hack journalism.
it has its own perculiar prejudices. foreign nationals, trades unions, labour party, civil service, social services regularly take a beating from it.
back in the 20's it villified austro-hungarian immigrants.
in the 30's it warmly applauded the rise of hitler.
under the present lord rothermere it takes pleasure in scaremongering.
    immigration/house prices/health.
    take your pick.
it's certainly fleet st.'s (as was) worst example of 'comment over content',
which is why I disregard any article re housing market.

btw, I don't go in for n/paper snobbery. I just like to get to the facts.

Can we win the award for the most irrelevant change of post topic??

Base colours i.e black, dark blue, dark green, dark brown. You shouldn't wear a navy shirt with black trousers etc... (but it's OK to wear a blue shirt with black trousers...)

I used to share a house with 6 girls, and they attempted to girlify me (and succeeded!) and taught me all these useful (useless???) things! 10 years ago I hated pink and all things frilly/lacey/girly, and now I even read the fashion pages in magazines

I'm far from Trinny & Suzanna though, and have no intention of going round groping peoples boobs (or moobs) to check they're wearing the correct bra...
