You haven't *just* found out

THIS post asks what will happen if the benefits agency find out that he hasn't been ~ you knew a while ago!

Regardless of the college issue you shouldn't be claiming if he doesn't live with you either!! How long ago did he leave?

You DID know that he wasnt going to college 4 weeks ago ~ your post history proves that.

How the hell would CB know he wasnt going to college ~ besides DPA rules would not allow them to tell you that!

You were advised at that time to inform the benefits office of your discovery ~ it appears that you didnt and they have found out themselves!

Wow, 14 months is a long time! Did he leave the house every morning with a bag and/or folder etc?

How did cb find out? If they knew before you then why wasn't it stopped as soon as they found out?

When you stopped all the other benefits, did you inform them he hasn't been going, or did you just say he is no longer at college? If the former, what did they say at the time?

I'd be very surprised if they don't want it paid back. I would try the CAB and see what they say, if only to help you arrange a manageable repayment schedule.
  • yes he left the house 3 days a week and said he was going to collage i was geting letters from the collage asking me to go see his progress etc so i did not think he was not going. and i told cb he had left home and i didint know if he was in collage or not. he left home because i told him to fornot going to collage i didint knoW how long he had not been going for and i rang the cb the day he left my house. cb have ot said he has not be going just ent me a bill dateing back to 7/12/06 so i think this means he has not been going from this date.its the hb thats got me worryed i will thay take it back off my landlord does any one know how far back the hb.will.go i did get told that under 18 dont hav to pay rent unless thay work is this true

Surely the college must have told you about his non attendance when you went in to discuss his progress? Or perhaps you couldn't be bothered?

Why didnt you take the advice given back at the begining of the year to inform benefits you had discovered that your son was not attending college?

You just said "i was geting letters from the collage " (sic) You do seem to have a problem with facts, don't you?
