    Amanda,

Where pet insurance is valuable is if you cat has a serious medical condition or is involved in an accident and need 100's of pounds of vets treatment.

If you could afford to take this risk then it is probably not worth it for you. If you cat is going to be allowed outside though, I'd probably consider it.

£4.55 premium doesn't sound too bad but worth checking out direct line and tesco who also have good value policies.

    Good luck.

IF?? Cats should always be allowed outside - they are not meant to be trapped indoors. If you want a pet to keep inside, get a hamster.

Sainsbury's cat insurance is £3.75 per month and they insure a problem for the life of the policy (ie. they pay up for ongoing treatment whereas most will just pay for a year or up to £1000 etc.). It seems to be the best value for money. The only cheaper policy I can find is E&L and they shouldnt be touched with a bargepole (ask your vet!!).

I cant afford a £600 vet bill if my kitten got run over so as soon as he is old enough to go outside he will be insured.

Thanks everyone - there's obviously very strong opinions both for and against! I'll have a look at the Sainsbury's policy as that seems quite cheap. And Skintchick - I can assure you that the kitten will be allowed outside when it's old enough - if only so that I can get rid of the stinky litter tray in my kitchen LOL!

Well yes - that's a good bonus, although if your kitten ends up like my cats it will refuse to go outside if there's snow and wee all over the kitchen floor!!!

There is info here about the Sainsburys policy, it's very helpful - and, very good value!

Your right about it not mentioning the excess. I've just phoned them and if your pet is under 9 years old then its £50 for a claim under £1000 and £75 for a claim over £1000. If the pet is over 9 then its £50 or 15% whichever is higher. Also its worth noting that they specify that your cat must be up to date with its vaccinations. Still good value for money IMO.

I do agree with Skintchick that if you have an older cat and its always been healthy then its probably not worth getting them insured as long as you know that if a problem arose you could budget for it.

Using the advice on here we compared our Tesco Dog Insurance with the comparison site. E&L insurance came out tops @£5.65, but 4 months later we have had a revised quote of £7.65. The cover has gone up but so has our premium by almost 40%. I'm use to the premium being revised yearly but this seems unusual. I've just checked the comparison site again and they are still the most competative. Does anyone know if this is a trend with E&L or have we just been unlucky.
