Hi everyone, The rugby coach signing in for the first time
I totally relate to jjef's post as I lost my Mum to the big 'C' in mid 2006 and in the months leading up to this had developed a habit of drinking heavily most nights. This unfortunately is still with me.
I've had a good read through this thread since Christmas and have soaked up a good deal of the good vibes so thanks to everyone :T . In fact I've probably drunk less this festive period than in any other year of my adult life.
I am in a much better place now and am ready to have a go at the AFJ challenge. I don't think I will achieve a perfect score as it is my birthday on the 8th and I already have a couple of things lined up. I will try for 25/31. That would be a huge achievement as that is probably an accurate monthly average for drinking days over the last three years.
I also hope to benefit from some extra available cash and some weight loss which will help to show off some good work in the gym in the last 6 months.

don't worry about it at all..in my first few months on MSE I spent a lot more time on the CC and Mortgage Boards and thanks are scarce on the ground...whereas some other Boards are much more "giving" - some incredibly so.
Enjoy your curry Molly - New Year will always be a bit trickier for me - again because of the associations but it's far easier not to drink when you're on a roll than it is to have one night of it then stop again on New Years Day. That's possibly been the hardest part all along....drinking was one thing but keeping on stopping was exhausting.
For Mari : the key phrase for me is trigger point. The time when your brain and body is expecting the intake - you've just got to relearn how to do things so it fits in with what you want to do. Recognising the triggers is the first point then you can address them before hand and get by them.
For Eselt, I hope the cravings pass - they did for me - I can't actually remember when but I have now pretty much forgotten the triggers that I had. The triggers are rusty and unused so I don't notice them any more. THey will fade for you too.
For the longstanding posters on here, I hope the evening is what you want it to be. And the same for the New Year to come.
For the newcomers - welcome - if anyone has anything to ask please do as there is a lot of expereince here - of all sorts! And if anything that we've been through can help anyone else that would be great.
As for the AFJ - put me down for 31/31 - I expect nothing less and will have nothing less.
Set your targets folks and think where you'd like to be this time next year.
Take care.

Miamoo, a bottle of wine or two a night is not surprising at all, it's amazing how it creeps up and up. It's the same as all drugs whether it be fags or coke, you wil always gradually need more to feed the habit and get the same highs and your body will learn to tolerate it more and more so that what you used to have a year ago no longer does anything for you. Scary thought!
YM  I've been looking for a WiiFit everywhere, you wanna sell it :rotfl:
HipHouse, that letter from your mum was a lovely gesture and just goes to show you how proud she must be of you
GP, you made me giggle about drinking your big man's drink with your little finger in the air!! I bet you did it too and had a laugh to yourself!
jjef, welcome to the thread and good luck for AFJYou are lucky you have someone else to confide in at home and it can all be out in the open, stick with us and let us know how you're getting on
Well done Mari :T that's a great achievement! The headaches are normal when quitting alcohol, they will pass. You may also have a slightly disturbed sleep pattern for a few days and some more vivid dreams, but this also passes. Good luck
Molly, that curry sounds good for tonight, I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for all your support this year
TRC, welcome to the thread and good luck to you for a AFJ, well 25 of 31 of it anywayKeep us updated on your progress
To everyone else, I don't wanna name names either really cos don't wanna miss anyone out but obviously, MP, Bis, Lurks, Eselt, Shoppy, BHB, Fay (where are ya?), YM, Beth (where are you too!!), NTC, 115K and anyone else I've missed.....thanks to you all for your continued support, this thread means so much to me and I reckon I'm gonna need it over the next few weeks!!

Hi everybody. Just wanted to pop in to wish everyone on here a very happy new year. Hope you all party like its 1999 (with or without the pop) and that you wake up with a new mission in mind:j For the first time in many many years I achieved 2 alcohol free days this year in November and that was entirely down to the support and inspiration I have recieved on this thread. The New Years Honours List came out today and in my world you should all be on it:A 2 days might sound like nothing to some and you would probably be right but for me it went to prove that I can do it and that I want to do it more. So here we go flying full whack into January 2009 and I will achieve 15 AFDs :T :T
All the best to everyone29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -
To everyone else, I don't wanna name names either really cos don't wanna miss anyone out but obviously, MP, Bis, Lurks, Eselt, Shoppy, BHB, Fay (where are ya?)
Present Miss
Just flying through ..... Busy busy still......
I guess I'd better set a target ..... Think I'd better aim for halfway .... 15 Days out of the 31 for me please
Happy New year Everyone
