Just joined site and have no idea if this will help anyone but seems to me that there is a clear link between bad and embarrsassing situations alcohol and life in general. I know coz bin there and coming out other end.
I love lager, wine cider and have no intention of removing them from my life because I like the taste and we are a social booze society.
I have also been in bad situations coz of the bier but there is an easier way to manage this especially at home.
If you stop full stop then there is every reason to believe it is not going to last because you did not want it to so adopt a different approach.

It's great if you can enjoy it and still be a productive, functioning, pleasant member of society. Personally, I tried to moderate for years and found that I drank almost every day and I was wasting my money and my health.

If you can moderate it and be happy and have it not affect you, I think that's great. I wish I could do that.

I quit on January 1st and have nearly done a year. After a few weeks I didn't miss it. I still go to pubs but enjoy watching others getting drunk. At the beginning of the night, it's like awww, I wish I could have a pint and then by the end I'm feeling 100% and glad that I didn't.

Everyone's different and I wouldn't advocate that everyone completely stops if it's not a problem for them or others around them.

It's funny how people react when you tell them you've given up drinking for a year. Lots of "Well done", "I couldn't do that", "Do you think you'll go back to it?". There's some mild envy from some. Such a shame that our society is so wrapped up in alcohol.

And is society any happier for it?

Hi all- just passing though, well done everyone and welcome to anyone new. I think people are mildly envious when you knock the drinking on the head, some people will even have a quiet word about their worries and ask you how you did it/do it because they are worried about there own drinking and want some advice. Its a shame that its OK to drink excessively in Britain but as soon as you tackle the problem you feel stigmatised- should be the other way round really?

Hope everyone is OK tonight- crossing my fingers for you all.
  • Good evening all

Quiet on here tonight - hope you are all having good evenings.

I;ve added an extra incentive to stay off the drink - I've just worked out that if I put the money towards my debts that I would normally spend on alcohol, then I will be debt free 2 years earlier. How scary is THAT? Just goes to show what I would normally spend (and maybe partly the reason I'm in debt in the first place)

So, am off to put put £4 in my internet savings. That would have been tonights bottle of wine.

    Morning All
I agree with both those points all too much -

i.e. Our debt wouldn't be half as much, and it would be paid off much quicker.

Just worked out, our bottle of wine / beer over the last 10 years has cost us £15000 !

    Our debt totals about £9000

Oh dear - how silly am I

Managed AFD1 yesterday - Antidepressants gave me a good nights sleep last night and am quite positive this morning for day 2 :D

I would be even more positive it it was 23 deg as opposed t0 -3 deg outside :rotfl:

Off to work now - will catch up later

Bobble hats everyone :D (Such and attractive look )

    Hi everyone else!
I added up the cost of drinking....whilst I'm sat there darning my underwear to keep it going another 10 yrs (speaking of attractive looks...). I'm not in debt but the stuff me & DD go without, when I listen to the other girls in work.......bless the girl she's not demanding....yet.
    Good day, all!

  • Morning all. Apparently berets are all the craze this year:eek: mm may just stay inside.:D

Well I wasn't AF last night as predicted but I didn.t start until late because I was driving and therefore drank far less than normal. Had some very odd dreams last night though so if this is a side effect of less booze then bring it on:rotfl: :rotfl:

Not driving tonight (another christmas social here:rolleyes: ) but I do need to do some shopping later and will therefore be driving for that so again it will be at least night time ish before I start.

Well done Barshamhillbilly and Miss P for your AFDs

WB. lol at you darning your smalls:rotfl: personally as a singley I just live with holes:D :D:o now that really is NOT a good look:o
