Hello, I've been following your thread for a while and have just plucked up the courage to join you, if that's ok?
I am a bottle of red a night girl, its got to the stage where every morning I beat myself up about being a wreck, a carp mum, wasting money.....but every evening I persuade myself I really need a drink, which turns to 2 then a bottle etc etc. My kids are fed up with me falling asleep on them , embaressing them and I know for all of us I need to change, as I can't remember my last AFD. So I hope Im in the right place
Im going to try for an AHF night tonight, have warned the kids of my intentions, so will get hell if I open a bottle....wish me luck

Hi everyone. Mari good luck for today it feels really good to get the first AFD under your belt.
Winebox we should share a tin of quality street. I can live without the caramel swirls but can snaffle orange and strawberry creams until i am sick:o
Still no good news on AFDs here. I seem to be getting worse at the moment  Off out tonight and I have agreed to drive so I know at least I won't be starting until I get back and thats a lot saved for me:o
The only good thing for me at the moment is a higher awareness of what I am doing and an increasing disgust with what it is doing to me. Shame I can't translate that over to some action but I guess its a step in the right direction.
Sorry for the moroseness (sp) and well done to all our successes today. I am very envious:D29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -

They're next on my list! Sorry but I need someone to eat the toffees & nutty ones. I totally relate to the rest of your post...you've hit the nail on the head there...as you saw I am also only cutting down by having to drive! I'm sure things will "click" at some point, HOPEFULLY0 -
Hi All,
Thanks for the support and kind words yesterday. Its much appreciated.
I'm feeling a bit more positive this morning, but kicking myself again for giving in after work yesterday.
Never mind ---- AFD1 today

morning all.
Mari, welcome, you are in the right place - the first step is to realise that you are not happy with your level of drinking and then you're ready to do something about it. there are loads of great posts on the threads and everyone is very supportive.
WB and NTC, I do think that there's a big 'head' element to stopping any habit or breaking an addiction. Sometimes it just takes a while for our subconcious child 'i want to' personality to come into step with our rational 'it's not good for me' personality. IYSWIM.
I'm off on holiday for three weeks tomorrow so I'll not be posting much - I might get online occasionally but not sure. I shall pop in tomorrow though to say bye bye and good luck.0 -

3 weeks:eek: thats impressive:D Have a lovely holiday.
You are right about the subconscious child. Mine is a real baby. For example if I am watching morning tv and see someone testing wine for christmas I figure that if its ok for them its ok for me so pour myself one:rolleyes:
Anyway good luck to everyone and ((jo))29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -

Yes Biscotte - have a fab time - where are you going?
NTC you've done it again - hit nail on head - a few people have posted previously about the amount of drinking on the telly eg Coronation St, & yes, it makes me feel it's "acceptable", desireable even,......
BHB good luck today & everyone else x0
