one little victory...there will be many moreeverything looks and feels different after a while. Then you realise where you really want to be.

    take care everyone...

eselt, some great ideas so far...you shouldn't need to move....in some ways I'd view that you're far less a risk than some that are probably hiding plenty!
this is so true, i used to feel ashamed, but it can eat you up. sometimes when you are so wrapped up with your own "sh*t" you dont see so much what is going on around you, and believe me everyone has their own "difficulties". sometimes you just have to try and blank what you think others might think. its your life and you made the life changing decision to change it for the better. thats it, no more explaining, you are now in a different place and anyone who maks you feel uncomfortable or awkward for that isnt worth been friends with. xx:A

  • Well done Fay, a week is a very good achievement, I'm totally impressed. Boast away! Well done everyone else who's stayed on track, seems like an impressive number of you from the perspective of having slipped off the track quite majorly this week!

Big party night on Friday so hungover yesterday. Will be AF today but not sure it counts as probably still toxic! But think this fortnight has still gone well, my first run of 6 AFDs in ages so I have something to build on now.

Quiet one tonight and should be AFD tomorrow.
    G'night all!

I can identify with that. Last night my brother was trying to get me to have a glass of wine. Not in a bad way, nothing pushy. But I felt really defensive. I guess I have to get used to that for a while. I'm sure there will be other times when its a lot harder. I just hope I've got the strength to stick to it.

you get defensive when you're unsure, I suppose, and just finding your feet.

It becomes more natural as you get more practice! If you know the back of your mind that there is no doubt that you will not have one, the conviction will come through in what you say...and how you say it...and you get to believe yourself more and trust yourself more...(but don't get complacent...it's tough out there!)

    take care all.

    Good morning all

Just wanted to say I have been Alcohol free for SEVEN days! Major achievement for me when I would normally get through 3-4 bottles of cheap wine a weekend.

To celebrate I have put the cost of one of those bottles of wine in my Sealed Pot!

Have a good Monday everyone. Hope you all had good sober weekends!

    Yeah, we're all waiting!!

OH has just bought a breathalyser, which has revealed good & bad news....the good news was that even after a very late & very boozy night I was well under the limit the next morning (8 a.m.) and an hour later had a zero reading. I checked after another (:o ) "heavy" night & again had a zero.
The bad news is that after only one medium-sized glass of wine - with food - I was over the limit! - it must get into my system really quickly & then get processed out again just as fast. But that was a shock - will have to have a zero drinks policy if I'm going to drive. I rely on my car too much to ever be silly, but I often have one; not any more!
(P.S. OH was still over the limit at midday yesterday, even tho he felt OK, so we've both learned a lesson i.e. put it back in its box :rotfl: )

Everyone's doing so well at the moment that I don't want to bring the thread down....but I'm gonna anyway ;)

I am struggling big time and desperately need to get a day 1 out of the way, the shakes have returned, I feel run down and carp all the time now, memory has gone, all the usual symptoms, depression etc....

I feel I need to be locked up somewhere to stop me getting to the booze but am too scared to actually go in to detox cos of the implications on the family/xmas/work etc. etc.

As (I think it was), Eselt said, the thought of not drinking is worse than not doing it. I know I will feel on top of the world this time tomorrow if I don't drink today, I know that once I get to 9pm tonight without drinking it will be plain sailing, I know that at 9pm tonight without drinking I will enjoy some yummy choklit and be so excited about the prospect of waking up un-hung-over'ed.

Now this all sounds great and why would you consider drinking if you can enjoy all this, I hear you ask??

    I don't know, is the answer :(

    Pearls of wisdom anyone?

WB, you may not want to answer me on a public forum or via PM, but I shall ask anyway.....how many units did you consume?

    Sorry to be nosy :)

Not at all Jo, we're on here to try & help ourselves so no point in my being coy. Hard to guesstimate units - Sat had approx 2 bottles of wine prob 13% (20 units?) & then 2 very large Baileys with extra scotch in. So maybe 30ish in all (OMG! ). Yesterday prob had 2 bottles again & one Baileys, no scotch! So another 20+.

I did say I was in self-destruct. I've got a very persistent "fluttering" feeling just below my ribcage on the right side which I suspect might be my liver complaining & i can't say I blame it.

Don't know if this will help your case but I also need an AFD1 & am trying to do that today. I absolutely agree with what you say about the thought being worse than the reality - whenever I do have an AFD I really ENJOY it! And esp enjoy feeling great the next day! So also like you, I ask......WHY WHY WHY? Not a pearl of wisdom I know but you're not on your own with the situation.
